Froch would've beaten Golovkin, right?

Froch was mentally switched on against Ward, but he was a class above Froch in skill level. There are levels in boxing. That night Froch learned he what p4p fighter looked like. Froch was not a great a fighter, but a very good fighter. It had nothing to do with Froch not wanting it or not being focused. It was because Ward is better than him.

Same thing with Jermain Taylor. Froch didn't win because he wanted to win more. He won because his stamina was better than Taylor's and Taylor ran out of gas.

Showing dog in them is something Skip Bayless would say.

Froch was actually strategically inept that night. He tried to prove the point that he could joust with Ward at range (as he can with most fighters whose names aren't Ward), gave Ward exactly the kind of pace he was most comfortable with. By the time he adopted a more apt strategy, it was too late. Ward was showing some signs of discomfort in those late rounds, though in part as a result of the broken hand, I'd imagine.

Froch had begun finding adjustments, besides, and any fair score had tightened up considerably going into the 12th. Taylor was not "better than" Froch. If he were, he would have had the nous by which to mitigate the cost of his ebbing stamina, just as Ward was able to mitigate his discomfort late against Carl. Froch is better overall than Taylor, wore him down and took him out like a Man With No Name throwback, didn't even mess the bed and smother his finishing work. Ward is better overall than Froch.

Bring back fifteen rounders for championship bouts. We are being short-changed.

That's fine. My point is Froch doesn't win because he wants to win more than the other fighter. And when he loses it's not because he was not mentally switched on. When he wins it's because he's better at boxing. And when he loses it's because the other guy is better at boxing.

You'd have to favour a peak Froch, we don't know how GGG would be at 168.. look at Abraham..

It might be the case sometimes. That's a part of boxing. Some guys are just more desirous than others, it's an intangible that can make the difference in a fight.

In the case of Ward and Kessler I (close loss, could've gone either way), I agree. I don't think he defeats Ward in any case, but bad strategic application was his problem in that fight, not focus per se. It was a Super Six final, after all. He had to have been up for it. Tactically, he didn't give himself his best chance, thought he could stand off and box Ward, found otherwise.

He was definitely unfocused for Groves I, though. You could see the difference in the rematch plain as day. I fully expected that improvement, because I knew he hadn't respected George going into the first fight, had just wanted to get him out of the way and have an early night.

Anyone recall this classic Froch weigh-in?

"Oi, nob-rot! Get back in yer bog roll!"

"You're getting knocked arrrt, yer little tosspot!"

I was familiar with the fella who shot and edited that from another forum. Pure comedy, highly recommended.
