Froch's demeanour worries me; claims 'it could be easy for' Kessler!

Apologies for yet another Carl Froch thread, but I needed to vent my fears; hopefully someone will reassure me & tell me that i'm being a fretful little *****.

Carl's negative mindset first became apparent when I watched one of Griff's regional reports (thanks again Griff)

Froch declares a desire to postpone the fight. But this was filmed when the possibility of Carl having to travel by ferry/car was mooted. So perhaps his mood might be brightened when his private flight was sorted out?
I then got around to listening to his Talksport interview, and his mood seemed to have worsened; for every positive he uttered a negative followed.

He begins the interview by stating that 'he's on edge a little bit' (which is understandable).
He continued by voicing concerns about the lack of travelling support due to the flight restrictions (again understandable), and then voicing his concerns about hometown judges ('stitch up springs to mind') when prompted by Alan Brazil.

But what follows is a remarkable statement where he seems to doubt his chances of winning.

'You never know what presents itself in front of you.
The problem with fighting him in Herning as we touched on earlier score wise & judge wise if he thinks he can just coast to a points decision and use his jab and keep out the way and box safe he's got the ability to do that. He's a good fighter. He's in his hometown and he knows the judges are on his side then he knows what he needs to do to win and it could be easy for him.'

FFS he even mentions the possibility of 'walking onto something'!
I can't believe the man who spoke with pride of having never been put down in his career, 'not even in the playground' seems to be questioning his own granite chin, just one kd later!

Finally on preparations for the fight

'Sparrings gone okay ... i've been let down a few time ... some people had to pull out.'

Even when Brazil & Irani try to console him and tell him to 'celebrate for a week' in Herning after he's 'knocked this guy out' when he envisages becoming stranded in the event of further flight issues, Carl despairs 'you've seen the place i'm in the middle of an industrial unit'.

He had to be cajoled by Brazil to provide a more postive outlook on the fight, finally declaring that he is 'the better fighter'.

Where's the swagger and the cocksure belief?
My heart sank after listening to this interview; i've never heard him sound so downbeat and dare I say it - defeatist. He seems to be acknowledging his own deficiencies indirectly by claiming Kessler can win by 'boxing safe'.
I know he had a reputation as a nervous amateur, and he's displayed evidence of nervousness in the recent past (McGuigan was keen to point out that Carl was the first to break eye contact with Pascal after their prolonged stare down) so hopefully this is his typical state of mind prior to a big fight, and that he normally banishes all self-doubt by fight night.
But I am beginning to fear the worst.

Froch doesn't ever come across as confident to me, where he tries to come across as just that.

Point being he tries to come across as confident.

I think he utilizes grandiosity as a form of escapism. And in actuality has feelings of inadequecy at the core of him.

I dotn know if one or two comments have been blown out of proportion or there are a few things wrong behind the scenes tbh. The general consensus seems to be that Froch is unhappy n possibly nt best prepared after the last week or so. Will it have an effect who knows worrying for Froch fans though. I have to admit usually this is where Froch is coming out with i will knock him out 80% ko percentage blah blah etcetc havent heard any of that which is worrying

He's pissed off at the way his career has turned out and is highly envious of british fighters who've achieved more exposure and fortune with less of a struggle.
Fighting with a defeatist attitude is not good but a 6 foot Danishman trying to knock your head off has a marvelous way of concentrating the brain.

sounds like he's trying to feel kessler a false sence of security. id imagine after the ward fight froch is feeling even more confident than he normally does

He was saying in a recent interview that he had injuries going into his last two fights but still went ahead with them - I wonder if he is fully fit? He seemed pretty ambivalent about the possibility of the fight being cancelled etc...

Hmm. I'm surprised so many seem to think that Carl is playing mind games.
Here's a link to the onterview itself:

    http://www.talksport.net/shows/show.asp?showId=100139&id=110538&c=100005&sCatType=shows

    He does seem genuinely despondent.

Carl Froch should know all about hometown decisions.
