Froch's been on Soccer AM a couple of times.

Haye only got on Jonathan Ross, because he became the heavyweight champion of the world in a fight against a freak that gained lots of publicity.

But prior to that haye was up every morning on bbc breakfast news, gmtv etc putting in appearances around his training and I would say by playing up the size difference between him and valuev he captured the mind of passive sports fans.

Carl froch is an articulate man but unlike haye does not come across as a tongue in cheek trash talker instead he comes across as bitter and unapproachable. Watching him talk on fightcamp is like watching a boxing version of david brent, "youtube clip of his gf", "dont usually send a limo", "champion of my calibre" etc etc

I remember prior to the pascal fight on itv, mcguigan said carl lacks confidence and I think it rings true, if he dropped the hardman act he would have more fans.

Difference is, Haye had the backing of Sky which is a huge factor. The coverage he gets from SSN is very important in catching the attention of the casual sports fans (which is the primary demographic that needs targeting) and Sky's advertising is off the charts. Everybody hears about it when Haye or Khan or Hatton are fighting because Sky push them on the public. That then gives those guys extra opportunity to get their name out there via other media avenues.

Froch needs Sky. He would actually get more publicity out of being with them than he would ITV (who do **** all advertising). As long as he fights on primetime his commodity will remain completely stagnant, just at the time when it should be shooting towards a peak. Fat Mick has cost Froch a lot of money so far with his bumbling ways, and he will cost him more.

Exactly. That's how fat Mick should have been thinking from the beginning.

Mick had 2 options to get Froch Vs Kessler on TV:

    1) Give the fight to Sky for a small fee, so they can show it live (i.e. not on SBO)
    2) Sell the fight to primetime as a PPV fight and earn a set amount for each sale

Mick must have come to the (correct) conclusion that he can generate more money for him and his fighter by going down the primetime route (good promoting IMO).

It's unfortunate that Virgin and Primetime can't sort their **** out, but such is life!

I also remember Mick saying Froch deserved to be in the P4P list:lol:. In all seriousness, I think a lot of people are discrediting the Taylor win now, which shoud never have happened as Taylor is still, IMO, one of the best fighters in the sport- he has just had just suffered a consequence of his own willingness to take on the best in a loaded division.

Aside from that, Mick should have taken Sky's money and made a long-term gain out of a short-term loss. He priced himself out of the market and there is a reason why he is the only major promoter in the UK without a TV deal for his roster of fighters:deal.

Yeah ITV his broadcaster pulled out of the sport due to their financial situation and their new CO

How does this long term gain work then? Were Sky willing to show Micks/Carls future fights on Sky BO if Mick gave them Froch-Kessler?? If so it's the first I've heard of it, have you got a source for this bold prediction?

Mick was offered a deal on regular Sky Sports for a fee less than they would have got for their debut on Primetime- instead, Mick chose the money instead of an investment in the future. In the long-term it would have been beneficial to take the Sky offer as fights between Froch and Kessler would most probably have ended up on SBO after Sky had had the chance of hyping Froch. SBO is a channel everyone in the UK is familiar with and also has a proven track record in selling PPVs. Also consider that Sky have a proven track record in hyping their own events. Haye was never even mentioned on Sky prior to signing with them and in two months the whole country was talking about his fight with Valuev. Meanwhile, no-one hardly mentioned Froch being involved in one of the biggest events in boxing in many years: the Super Six.

How many people do you know who bought Froch-Dirrell? In fact, how many people do you know who have heard of Primetime? Primetime was an utter let-down and Mick should blame no-one but himself.

I'd also point out that during the recession Hatton (a promoter with nowhere near as much experience as Hennessy) got a TV deal no problems and didn't blame any situation on ITV- there were other options available to Mick and he didn't take them up, Hatton has been shrewd enough already to take advantage of this in order to build a profile for his own fighters.

Remember the Taylor fight as well? ITV and Setanta were interested (according to Buncey at least) but the event was overpriced by Mick and eventually ended up an internet stream for £10. See a pattern here?

I didn't even buy it and I know you didn't either

The best thing about Primetime was Buncey and Kerr being back on telly.
