In fairness to Froch there have only been 2 knockouts the entire SMW tournament. Not that he doesnt have great power its just he is meeting fighters that can deal with it better and gain his respect.

Id love to see him catch Ward big just to see if he can take it, but the ****er is so clever. Even when he got tagged with a few right hands early on against Miranda, he tucks his chin down very low so it takes the snap outta the punch. When he jabs to the body he already has the other arm around the other guys waist to hold and again doesn't leave his chin out when moving in. Has all the tricks it would seem.

He has always been allowed to get away with his questionable technique though. I want to see what happens when Ward is forced to play by the rules or his opponent isn't - a level playing field.

I've noticed Kevin Mitchell has got a similar punching style to Froch. They both need someone coming on to them or a completely static target that enables to put their full weight behind a shot; or else they struggle to really make a dent in the other fighter. They can't throw powerful quick arm type shots ala Sergio Martinez.

Thats the thing about clinching, there is no set rule regarding it. Were told its illegal but ive yet to see a ref come down hard on any fighter for excessive holding. I think the refs are been told just deal with it at your own discretion. Besides i don't think Froch should get too stressed out worrying about the ref and that, im not ignorant enough to realise that there might not be 1 clinch in this fight and Ward could still clearly outbox Froch because he is that good.

Your statement was "better chins better fighters". Perhaps I misunderstood because you didn't really qualify it?

All im saying is Ward will continue to do it because he hasn't been pulled up on it yet. Too much is made about Ricky not been let fight up close, from the exhanges they did have up close Mayweather seemed to be beating him at his own game and seemed very clever on the inside.

Not saying anything about whether Cortez was right or wrong or whether Mayweather would have won regardless. Just making a point about refs acting on excessive holding.

So you're saying you would be ignorant to think this? Sorry, but your use of double negatives makes it difficult to understand what it is you're trying to say?

He's fighting guys with better chins that are better fighters, that was my point. So not only are they less likely to get hit, even less likely to get hit by a big wound up KO shot, but also they take them better when they do land.

I dont agree that elite level fighters take punches better than less talented fighters. Its a matter of not been able to hit top guys clean because they are defensively much better. I don't think Dirrell or Ward have better chins than Tatevosyan, Reid or Magee but Dirrell's and Ward's are far less likely to get tested which is testament to both of them. Froch catches Ward clean then chances are he may knock him out, but i can't see him catching him clean really.
