What is the procedure, exactly, for an amateur boxer to qualify and compete in the Commonwealth games, or European champs, or Worlds, or Olympics? In basic steps.

Say you are one of your countries best, you have won your national title. Is there a qualifying tournament or something or do you get an invite based on being one of your nation's best? I somehow remember there being a series of qualifying tournaments around the world but I may be wrong.

basically what you said is right. First you will register to compete for the commonwealth trials and if you keep winning you will make the team. Same applies with other tournaments.

I really have my sights on achieving something or at least getting to that level to represent my country later in the decade, 2014 or 2018 commonwealth games, any worlds, euro champs that I manage to get through to. I've spoke about this before but I seriously underestimated what it took to succeed at University and train full time, so I had to do the boring thing and put it on the back burner, but I am getting back into it and set myself a goal of getting to a reasonable level of achievement by 2020, I am 21 now, will be 32 end of 2020, which is a bit old to get anywhere in the amateur world I should think and I would have other responsibilities in life I would think! Long way off though, but that's the goal and like to know what to work towards.
