From round 9 on Nunn was on wobbly legs. Even the announcers had the fight almost even going into the championship rounds. However James Toney was being touted basically as merely an opponent, and as it turns out the scorecards were disgraceful. Toney looked like he was being hit, but was rolling most of Nunns punches and comig back with bombs. It was clear Nunn was losing steam and Toney was getting stronger. Why is this fight portrayed as Toney coming from massively behind and setting a trap for Nunn in the closing rounds with a miracle KO when actually Toney was doninating the later rounds and arguably landing the harder blows throughout. High level fight where one fighter was more active and the other more accurate. Not a onesided affair its portrayed as.
Iv brought this up in discussions before. Toney adjusted and started pressuring Nunn very effectively. Even in the first 8 rounds although Nunn won most of them almost all were very close.
One of my favorite fights seeing Toney remove the smirk from Nunn's face and knocking him the **** out in front of Nunn's hometown fans was priceless. Toney was probably in the best shape of his life he said afterwards that he was doing some high tech training stuff with Holyfield and that he felt better than ever.
