From watching the Bute fight today im certain that ....

Bute has talent - no doubt about it. The top opponents will demand more than talent though. The only time Bute was tested under fire he couldn't dig deep enough. Lets see him in the trenches or avoid being forced into them by a Ward, a Froch or a Kessler. If he beats any of them, I'll believe he's the goods. At the moment the jury is out.

 

That would be like saying someone like Lee Prudy is a proven domestic fighter but Frankie Gavin is not, given that Prudy has beaten better opposition and Gavin not to face anyone that decent.

But we all know Gavin would school Prudy and is beyond domestic level (no one would argue that) but Gavin has yet to face any top domestic fighters.

This is the same case for Bute but on the world level, of course you can judge a fighter even if he hasn't faced the best! You can asses how well he does against the given opposition.

Another example would be Degale, he schooled some decent domestic fighters, hasn't faced anyone on the world stage but we know he will be talented enough very soon to do so.

 

He does remind me of calzaghe in the way that he fights, let's see him in with direll or abraham, I'm not interested in him fighting pavlik or taylor.

 

Just watching the fight now.....if Buffer has any more facelifts he'll be shitting out the back of his head.

 

All I need to know is that I've never seen a decent world titlist end a fight on his arse and wondering what day of the week it is.

 

The bloke is 31 years old and supposedly beyond domestic level....at 31 he has proved nothing yet and time is running out quickly

 

My point was as an example, Frankie Gavin today could beat far better opponents than the one's he is currently facing (people aren't going to argue that).

It's the same for Bute, he has shown enough that he is capable of beating opponents far better then the ones he's facing.

And that's what he has proved!

 

I might be a bit off with this but Bute doesn't look that physically strong to me.

Ward, Froch, Kessler look bigger and stronger to me. I think a strong fighter pressing Bute has a great chance once they don't get picked off by Butes accuracy.

 

Frankie Gavin can't even control his weight, bad example.....I take your point though :thumbsup

 

Physically stronger maybe, but I think he punches harder than any of them tbh.

I think both Kessler and Froch beat Bute.He isnt rubbish but he just dont look as good as people have been making out.

The guy on the left is very big and very black

 

His punching power looks impressive. But then so did Calzaghes till he stepped up the level of competition. I know the hands afected it as well.But i can remember Joe landing the same sort of blows.

 

I only see the 4th round so cant comment on his last performace. But i doubt we would have learned too much from him fighting Mendy with all respect
