Thomas Velasquez (9-0) vs Tyrome Jones (4-2), 6 rounds TV is a protege of Danny Garcia; decent in and out boxer-puncher with good body-punching and workrate. But Jones is a tough, tricky southpaw with pretty good accuracy and timing and that allows him to counter effectively after getting outworked in the first half to work his way back into the fight. Close, hard-fought contest. As already stated, it ends in another split draw.
Was it a good fight? Barrios interveiws on thaboxingvoice a lot, so I'm kinda familiar with his family.
Kinda 1 sided, yet competitive if u Know what I mean. NN is a tough dude. Had some kinda shoulder problem I think? But ya, domination by your guy. U Know him personally? Friend of the family?
Mario Barrios (19-0) vs Naim Nelson (13-3), 10 rounds. Fight starts off with Barrios stalking behind the jab, looking to drop the right in and to work the body. Naim stays on the outside, looking to counter with single hooks. Barrios takes the first, but Naim lands some decent counters in the second to win the session. Barrios comes out with increased intensity in the third and Naim goes down after an exchange...not from a punch, but when he injures his left shoulders throwing a counter hook. A few moments later, he goes down again of his own accord. The official could have called them kd's but decided not to and allowed Naim to continue. Naim bravely hangs in there during the next couple of rounds, doing well to land the occasional right and defending well enough to ensure that he doesn't get caught that frequently or that big. But in the seventh, he goes down again after having thrown out his shoulder once more than Gary Rosato calls the fight off. Barrios TKO7 Nelson. Disappointing end to the fight. Too bad, because this could have showcased more than just Nelson's heart had that injury not occurred, based on the way the first couple of rounds unfolded.
No I don't know him personally, but his family has a lot of interviews with thaboxingvoice. Thaboxingvoice is a youtube channel if you didn't know, his sister is also a pro.
