Jamie Kavanagh vs. Michael Clark, 8 rounds @ lightweight

 

Round 1

Kavanagh is circling in on Clark and putting up a jab from mid-range, darting in and out with his balance focused on the balls of his feet. Kavanagh squats in and tries right hands to the body and left hooks coming up for air. Clark begins to find a home for the counter 1-2 on the backfoot, not stepping in to commit.

Round 2

Kavanagh is jabbing high and low on the way in, throwing right hands and left hooks at the body of Clark as he drops in on him, often with goal posts up to catch the doorman counter 1-2. Clark is busily wheeling away, pulling into rearward leans and twisting his upper body, making Kavanagh lunge, dropping in light counter 1-2s.

Round 3

Kavanagh is reaching and missing with jabs and climbing rights up top from a low squat as he presses in. Clark is circling away, rolling his fists around each other, kneading dough, tossing light jabs and feints and occasionally nailing Kavanagh with a counter right hand as Kavanagh sells out and barrels in with body combos. Kavanagh is busier, although perhaps landing at the lower percentage.

Round 4

Kavanagh is backing Clark onto the ropes with his body shots and high jabs. Clark holds up a perpendicular guard, right by his chin and left wrapped around his belly, popping counter jabs over Kavanagh's rights while leaning back and pulling his chin away. Kavanagh is sticking the jab hard under right arm into Clark's stomach and ducking Clark's jab to get close and clap up with a right hand or follow-up jab. Clark is landing jabs with him while backing up but not sitting down on his.

Round 5

Kavanagh is getting tied up as he jabs in on Clark. Wide counters on the body cut in by Clark with both hands as he stays atop Kavanagh, hovering and smothering with leans on his back. Big left hooks dragged up from the hip by Kavanagh, backing Clark out of the pocket and spinning his face around. One more big left hook by Kavanagh. Clark is a bit stunned and plodding back in a straight line. Clinch. Low blow left hook by Kavanagh. Clark shakes it off. Right hand by Kavanagh over a lazy Clark jab. Clark goes to a knee and beats the count but is waved off due to body language, averting his eyes from the ref's and not following his instructions.
