Emanuel Gonzalez vs. Tevin Farmer, 10 rounds @ super featherweight

 

Oh ****, I just realized I know a kid who fought on the non-televised undercard (his uncle is my barber).

Really wish my plan to attend this show tonight had worked out. :sad2

 

Are you familiar with Tevin, or just rooting against Manny? :yep

 

Gonzalez and Farmer both have unanimous decisions over common opponent Noel Echevarria (Gonzalez's was half the length)

Records aside, the better performance vs. Echevarria was pretty clear IMO and spoke volumes about this h2h match-up...

 

Round 1

Left hand downstairs by Farmer. Gonzalez is hanging back and jabbing, dropping right hands on the belt line. Farmer pops in the right jab and sweeps an upper-hook as he steps to his right. Quick movement by Farmer as Gonzalez waits on the outside, sizing up the smaller Farmer, rowing out jabs and rights. Gonzalez is walking in behind a pawing left jab and caught with a high right hook on the neck from a crouch as Farmer explodes, then fades quickly out the side door, not lingering in the pocket for Gonzalez to grab him. Flush left hand lead from a crouch shot up into the face by Farmer.

Well you have cause to celebrate - because as you can see from your three minute introduction, the American Idol has speed and slickness to spare and is fearlessly aggressive with good offensive skills. If only he carried a bit more pop he could actually be a solid fringe contender.

 

Round 2

Gonzalez is caught by left hand leads while circling on the outside. Farmer is turning over hard right hooks into the ribs as Gonzalez holds up the guard over his face, inert with his long arms folded uselessly above where Farmer is hitting. Gonzalez is jabbing down at him and snatching at him, unable to clinch as Farmer beats him to it, releasing instantly to propel himself outside and reset for more accurate straight lefts to head and body.

Round 3

Gonzalez is approaching with his arms low, chin slowly adrift from side to side in an irregular rhythm hoping to disrupt Farmer's aim. It backfires, as Farmer blasts him with double left hand leads from below, timing his sways in either direction. Gonzalez is caught by the left hand lead repeatedly over his left jab, seeking Farmer on the outside with no luck. 1-2 dropping in by Gonzalez, leaving both of his arms low as he reels them into his waist, chin hanging out in the air. Farmer darts in and out with high right jabs, using the shoulder roll and never getting inside Gonzalez's range for more than a second.

Round 4

Gonzalez is chasing after Farmer, left jabs flipping out from his lower chest and hitting nothing but Farmer's right jab in a serendipitous parry. Farmer is ducking and circling, putting up left hand leads. Body shot by Gonzalez stepping into a clinch. Farmer puts up right jabs into Gonzalez's left mitt, keeping it in check. Gonzalez swarms in on him with a mauling clinch, pressing Farmer against the ropes. Lots of physicality here by Gonzalez, but little clean punching. Right jab and left cross by Farmer, drawing himself back like a bowstring and catching Gonzalez on the snout. Farmer is jumping straight back away from Gonzalez's attempted straight right on the body, then quickly using lateral movement to keep Gonzalez turning. Farmer darts in with right jabs and then out using head movement. Nice left hand lead by Farmer.
