Round 1

González is getting dinged with lead rights from the opening bell. Aponte wasting no time bringing the heat, setting up with throwaway hooks chasing down as González crouches away, then dragging his rear heel in to follow through with big straight rights down the pipe. González is able to avoid taking any flush and unopposed with his gloves up in the way to deflect, but Aponte finally threads one in clean and González is down hard, clock showing there's still nearly half the round to go. Aponte is walking González down, same recipe, using the wavy meant-to-miss hook in place of a jab and just punishing González with heavy right hands, both straight & clubbing. González very wobbly but sits on the middle rope and comes up flurrying. González trying to move his head, but in a bit of a fog, reflexes dulled, although he is able to survive until the bell.

Round 2

Aponte starts up again where he left off, might've actually seen him paw his first jab of the night, then - doink. Clubbing right hand atop the crown of González and he's cueballed into the canvas like a piano from the roof. Sparkle Lee is already waving her arms before he gets up, eyes glassy and nose busted.

KO2!

 

"Hold dat, take it with you..." say the commentators over replays of the knockout.

"You wanna talk all that ish before the fight, you can't be coming like that. "

Such a ghetto vibe on Triller. I love it.

 

Christopher Mark Algieri vs. Mikkel LesPierre, 10 rounds @ welterweight

Round 1

LesPierre is dropping long southpaw jabs on the body and then changing levels, flicking a few up top, checked on the wrist or center-pocket of Algieri's left mitt. Algieri looks a touch slow, finding his timing, getting the kinks out as LesPierre keeps piecing him up with the jab for nearly two full minutes with occasional thudding lefts either down the middle or rainbowing up top and crashing into Algieri's buzzed-sides hairline. Algieri continuously a step behind getting his own jab off, and resorts to reaching out and clinching at mid-range after missing some body shots and taking receipts. Algieri lunging with rights, chasing, finding his range, and begins to look more comfortable in the closing moments, scoring a few jabs, but the round is too late to salvage.

Round 2

LesPierre is rushing in behind the right jab and slinging left hands downstairs after jousting his way in, resulting in some of the awkward but inevitable southpaw vs. orthodox head clashes. Ref warns them both to watch that. LesPierre is tying up and winging right hooks into the body as they press their arms into each other's chests to brace themselves, but Algieri digs in with meatier and lengthier body combos. LesPierre stifling Algieri up close, getting his finger-padding into the crook of the American's elbow and pulling his arms down into a tangled rat's nest, and then pulling his gloves free and whacking him above the hip.

Crazy that Hunter vs. Wilson is next and it's only 7:30pm EST. Is anybody going to stay tuned in for Lox vs. Dipset or are we all bailing once boxing's done?

Round 3

LesPierre is posting up at medium-close range again but leaving more pauses for Algieri to work. Algieri makes the most the chances the crafty Trinidadian gives him, stringing together uppercuts between the wrists and hooks in the vicinity of the liver. Too many breaks for LesPierre, who seems almost gassed even though we have only gone two rounds and the pace hasn't been crazy.
