I've seen Zuniga mentioned many times in many threads, but I've never seen a thread about him, so I made one. I think that he is under-rated, under-promoted, under-appreciated, and under-respected.

Prior to the second Taylor fight Zuniga gave Pavlik his toughest fight. Zuniga had two great fights with Zertuche BEFORE Pavlik ruined him. And he recently beat the 26-0 Oganov for the IBO SMW title by 9th round tko. He has not lost since he lost to Pavlik. His record stands at 20-2-1 with 17 knockouts. I'm not saying he is "A" level, but he's a solid guy who definitely comes to fight, and pretty fun to watch. Why isn't he getting any big fights? Is this a case of high risk/Low reward? I do not understand why this guy is flying so far under the radar.

How about making a post where you dont mention Kelly Pavlik, ever thought of that ?

Oh and what do you think about this as someone who knows a lot about Pavlik:

He's got decent attributes like good work rate, good power, good stamina. And all the fights I have seen him in have been exicitng fights so lets get him credit for that.

Pavlik's defence is very poor. He has little to no lateral movement. Also ive noted that Pavlik isnt the sharpest knife in the draw. He has no plan B and thats going to be a big problem against an elite fighter. Evidence of this can be seen in the second Taylor fight where when Taylor started to outbox Pavlik, rather than adapt, Pavlik literally just lost rounds - then kept doing the same thing untill Taylor gassed.

On the arguement that Pavlik would beat Calzaghe - I really doubt it. Pavlik's style is tailor made for Joe - A come forward fighter with no movement who will stand in front of you without much of a defence. Joe would literally outbox Pavlik all night from the outside much like Taylor did for long periods during the second fight except Joe wouldnt gas out like Taylor did and Joe would also throw more during this time. I also feel if Joe were to get into trouble he could adapt where as im afraid Pavlik cannot - or has not shown in his career than he can at this point.

Pavlik vs Winky ? Tbh im not sure. Its hard to tell how much Wright has left . Seeing as we cant judge that from a fight with Hopkins (See Calzaghe vs Hopkins for proof - How can anyone judge a performance level from fighting Hopkins ??!) I feel I need to see him once more before I make an opinion.

I agree. Pavlik says Zuniga is the hardest puncher he's ever fought.

Zuniga would probably KO Green or Manfredo, yet they get a lot more media attention.

I think Green is an easy night for Zuniga. Manfredo in good shape with his head on straight would get beat, but not as easy as Green

I usually ignore your posts. If you don't want to talk about Zuniga, go to some other thread.

haha ducked for a 3rd time. At the end of the day, your just a Pavlik nuthugger with nothing to back it up, probably because you became a fan of boxing when you saw Pavlik on Taylor vs Pavlik Countdown on HBO.

Actually I became a boxing fan while watching "Friday Night at the Fights" sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer, and Gillete Blue Blade razor blades with my grandfather when Sonny Liston was still the heavyweight champ. Now get the **** off my thread unless you have something to say about zuniga.

Erm...no. 15 fights in a row against a bunch of nobodies in Colombia, then beaten easily by a past his best Santos. And Santos was badly hurt by UK domestic level Takaloo before Tak got cut and lost a UD.

Beats two more absolute no hopers (in world terms) and then gets sparked by Pavlik. His best win is against a totally shot Echols who had drawn 2 and lost one going into the Zuniga fight and since the fight has drawn one and lost one, the guy hasn't won a bout since 2004.

And this Oganov. He was unbeaten for a reason. The reason being that he faced a long list of absolutely nothing fighters, most with losing records and no power and no chin. Give me ONE name off Oganovs record that is even a solid European level contender.

Nice try at hyping up one of Pavliks pre Miranda opposition as something other than utterly ordinary bordering on not very good.

Lockett is a better name that Zuniga and that tells you all you need to know about the latter as Lockett is domestic level, not even top European.

Zuniga's very good, and underated by this forum. I thought he gave Pavlik a very close fight and he's been on a bit of a mission since the loss, especially with the win over Mr.KO Oganov. I feel he will be more than a match for the 10-20 SMW's and could sneak into the top10 with a victory over someone decent.

I think a matchup between Zuniga and someone like Allan Green would be awsome to watch, both big punchers would be very explosive.

Would Zuniga beat Miranda ? Nope so im gonna class that as Kelly's 3rd best win.

You've also got to ask yourself how shot Santos was when he lost to him, and echols wasnt exactly in his prime.

As much as I dont like hyping up Kelly's resume Zuniga is one of the best on there.

I dont think anyone under rates him. He is just a dam good fighter who is very high risk low reward which is why he doesnt get any big fights. He is the perfect test for an up and coming guy. I think that if he gets lucky and lands fights with a Ward or a Green, pascall and wins he will get bigger fights that he desrves.

Now you're on it my brother! Miranda/Zuniga was discussed as an option for Miranda when he was having trouble finding an opponent. A decent boxer against a heavy handed slugger would make an interesting fight here. I'm not sure who I would pick, or even who I'd root for since I like both guys. Zuniga is a hard working entertaining fighter who I think deserves a couple good pay days.

    What?

The guy is garbage. Fought a bunch of Columbian crack farmers. I can only assume you want us to overrate him in attempt to boost Pavlik's resume, because the guy lost to Santos who looked poor against Tak a ****ing loo, and believe me I know how **** he is

Ouch, that's a pretty damning indictment.
