What type of flush bombs did Ortiz land tonight for people to be touting Wilder's chin? I didn't think the shot that hurt him was even a big shot. I didn't see any hard looking left hands land either. Ortiz was significantly shorter, and a plodder, often not being able to get into the proper position to land his power hand. You'd expect a taller, longer, more athletic guy, with a huge reach advantage to to better than what Wilder did.

Credit to him indeed, its taken him awful long to do it and I'll never understand why that is, but where it is due I must say he now deserves his recognition as being the real deal and one of the top 2 in the division. He is destructive, that's literally all he has, but its enough to beat anyone, on any given day and that's why him v AJ is a great fight.

Much like this one, AJ would win every round up until the first flashpoint occurs, when it does, its genuinely 50/50 who comes out on top of it, and that's exciting, and good for boxing, I now look forward to seeing it.

Well done to Wilder, instead of talking about it, he now finally has proven he might be the best, and everyone who doubted him, like I did, should just suck it up and say fair play, rather than denying what you saw was what it was, a big win, and an arrival onto AJ's level

Doubt it. It’s taken wilder a lot more than 3 to beat a lot of orthodox fighters. His strategy is literally sit and wait to land that right hand.

I don't disagree. Ortiz was visibly slowing down by the 7th round though. After hurting Wilder, his inability to finish the job, had a hell of a lot to do with his gas tank running on fumes.

Full credit to the champ no doubt. He beat a game Ortiz who I had winning the fight by a round or two. Ortiz was tired by the seventh. Great fight.

as someone who hasent really followed heavyweights im starting to become more an more interested because of how hot this division is. initially i thought of wilder as a wild heavy handed brawler and honestly as far as RING IQ goes he prob still belong near that title

but he showed alot of grit, heart and determination tonight to stop ortiz, again from an outsider i saw you all saying wilder had a weak chin, and ortiz would outbox him but wilder came out ontop tonight in an exciting back and forwards fight

do i think he beats AJ ? no i dont. but that would be a hell of a fight to watch and Wilder made me a fan tonight

That was an awesome fight, full credit to Wilder AND Ortiz. I got shouty, this was the kind of thing we look for in a heavyweight war and we got it for 10 rounds. Can't hate the guy for taking that stuff and coming back together to beat Ortiz, I feel vindicated in saying I can't see why Ortiz is being slept on so much - got SO close to taking that but Wilder fully deserves the win.

    Great start to HW March!!

One thing I'll say is(I thought I'd never say this) Wilder has a decent chance against AJ 70/30 - 60/40 kind of odds. AJ would have a massive technical advantage and could very well succeed where Ortiz failed in bombing him out should he hurt him. But one things for sure... He need's to come into the fight slim. If he comes into the fight bulky and Wilder is still standing after round 7 his chances go through the roof.

Cuts both ways: if Wilder had knocked Ortiz down 30 seconds earlier in the fifth, I believe he would have stopped him that round.

Fortunately Ortiz was ‘saved by the bell’ as it rang right after the 8-count ... and we got treated to a great fight.

No matter what Klitschko has done in the past, you rate the man that stepped into the ring that night and that man was no better than the man that stepped into the ring tonight.

Fury talks a lot but never actually fights so no point even bringing him up.

Wilder and AJ on a par for me. Neither is no1 without beating the other
