His corner should have gave Brigg's the standard line after rnd 7: "Show me something... start letting your hands go and make something happen or we're pulling the plug"

Instead they let him hang around and take a nasty (and potentially life-altering) beating for no apparent reason.

    * The ref could have ended it in round 10 as well... but I blame Brigg's corner more so.

I don't know about the ref, but I'll tell you what his corner thinking...they were thinking that perhaps Briggs could come up with a miracle KO, and that would bring another payday for THEMSELVES. Selfish *******s.

Take into consideration Briggs age, this may have been his last chance at a title. How do we know Briggs wanted the fight stopped? If he didn't then why should his corner have stopped it?

Like who? Haye and Valuev both passed on very good offers.

So who, specifically, do you mean in your statement?

Do you know anything about boxing?

The responsibility is on the corner exactly because the fighter themselves might not want to stop. Do you think Margo would have voluntarily quit versus Shane? Frazier versus Ali? Penalosa versus Lopez? These guys are warriors, and many would keep going until they died unless the corner stepped in. It's part of the corner and the referee's jobs to protect the fighter from their own pride.

The original Haye offers is 1. He had the name value and that was the opportunity to cut this mess off at the pass....they low balled him like crazy.

David Tua, offered 300K to fight Wlad Dec. 11th......OMG, they will not even beat what he can make fighting pretty much anybody.

Rahman also accepted a low ball offfer to be a replacement opponent.....after he quit like a ***** on the stool on Versus for everyone to see against Toney. Toney was low balled too...he had the biggest name out there, would sell the fight the absolute best of any guy out there with his self promotion and smack talk.....look at this **** now.

Kevin Johnson was moved up rather than paying a top guy to fight them.

Solis is too smart to sign the crap offers and is going to instead take on Ray Austin to get up to making a couple mill guaranteed. The Klits should be offering mando money to just get him in the ring.

Bottom Line is this.........K2 is snatching the underling HW's by refusing to pay the top tier challengers a nice enough purse to get them in the ring. By doing this, they have cut out the new challengers opportunity to surface as a challenge the public may percieve to actually be a challenge. They are forcing these guys to avoid fighting eachother, forcing the ones who have had good wins to turn them down, and forcing me to puke about the State Of HW Boxing.

K2 is ******ed. They needed to pay Toney and Holyfield years ago to beat their name values....if they had, other guys would have came up and we would still be watching HW fights on HBO. They have played their cards so wrong that it is not even funny. It gets worse and worse with every negotiation. I am pissed.

K2 is going so far as cancelling a match like Audley Harrison vs Sosnowski.....instead of paying top money to a guy....they are ruining the division. It is unbelievable to me that nobody else is commenting on how f'n horrible K2 has been run. The brothers careers and these joint title runs are a dream come true for them....but a nightmare to everyone else. They could have been so much bigger names but they ran this **** into the ground. Their joint reigns will be rememered as jokes for all times....because they are cheap....they would have won and recouped their money and more by going after names and established fighters........it's all pathetic.

Yes, Briggs was in a dreamworld in those last few rounds, and you can't leave it up to a fighter in that condition to know when he's crossed into a real health danger.

To allow this to continue 3 to 4 rounds too long of a onesided beating.............this has to be one of the more appalling decisions in quite some time.

The referee did a poor job on this fight. Had to stop the fight between the 7th and the 9th. The 7th and the 10 were brutal beatings.

Briggs was Koed on his feet several times, but was too proud to go down.

What happened to the standing 8 count, how about warning to fight back and protect ourself or have the fight stopped.

I won't knock on Briggs corner so much because faith is one of the business most important qualities. But after the 7th they had to warn him to fight back or they would throw in the towel, and having watched the two following rds go by with no change of the scenario, stopping the fight became obligatory. From then on they were deliberatelly hurting Briggs health for no good reason.

Well before the fight, Briggs and his corner had discussions on this. Briggs 100% ordered them in his best state of mind to not stop the fight no matter what. That he would hold them personally responsible for costing him 8 digit future earnings. This is not a team that was assembled to bring up and nurture a guy. This is a team that was assembled as cronies by a HW who calls all of his own shots in Briggs.

Going in, Briggs was The Boss. They had orders. They did what they were paid and assembled to do. Shannon did nothing different than what he would have done had he been working his own corner in a perfect state of mind. Keep getting up and assuming the risk, for what was in his mind, worth taking for the ultimate reward.

Now refs, doctors.....they aren't paid with instructions like Briggs corner was. As far as they go, they need to look out 100% for safety without regards for how much reward is on the line.

I know that I would not want to be the guy who was told to not stop the fight no matter what for weeks, tossing in the towel at some point and having Mr. Briggs not wind up agreeing with me. If Briggs held you personally responsible for taking his last chance at 8 figure fights away, you might as well have just cut your own throat ringside to stop the fight.

I read a report on b-scene where they're reporting that the doctor said he would have stopped it after the 10th but the ref's decision is final. If the doctor actually recommended stopping it and the ref ignored him, some action really needs to be taken against him because that's inexcusable.

It was amusing at first to see Briggs not get anywhere for the first 5 rounds but by the
8th, it wasn't amusing anymore. His corner, the ref, and the ringside doctor could care less watching Briggs take that kind of punishment. His corner really showed their stupidity by still shouting instructions at him well when Briggs was getting pumeled and to tired and hurt to fight. How dumb can u be. They all should be banned from their respective jobs in the sport.
