    Merchant-Mayweather 'rematch'?

As memorable as Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s fourth-round knockout of Victor Ortiz was in September -- when he knocked out Ortiz while he had his hands down and wasn't looking -- Mayweather's exchange with HBO commentator Larry Merchant after the fight was equally memorable.

Now Mayweather has his next fight lined up, for May 5 on HBO PPV against junior middleweight titlist Miguel Cotto.

And waiting for the fighters after the bout to interview them will be none other than Merchant, who told ESPN.com that executive producer Rick Bernstein called him recently to officially assign him to the pay-per-view.

Merchant - "They told me that I will be doing the May 5 show, and I am looking forward to it," Merchant said. "Everybody knows what happened, and it seemed like the right thing to do was to put me on the fight."

Merchant tried to downplay the notion of a "rematch" with Mayweather.

"To me, it's a fight I want to see and the fight is first, second and third," Merchant said. "I understand that there is a certain fascination with the question and answers between Mayweather and me, but the fight is first.

    Ring - Miguel Cotto Jr - http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/172413-cotto

    Brief preview of interview

When Miguel Cotto Sr. died in January of 2010, the career of his son, Miguel Cotto Jr., appeared to be nearing its nadir.

"My father was the strength. He was the strength that I had," said Cotto at the time of his father's passing. "But I will handle it. I have to."

Following the loss to Margarito, Cotto's nose was broken on the way to being knocked down and forced to take a knee. Blood dripped down his face from a deep gash over his left eye.

Miguel Sr.'s words best described the damage his son absorbed during the Margarito fight.

"That was a very sad night for me. Miguel wasn't crying tears. The tears coming out of Miguel's eyes that night weren't normal. They were tears of blood. You had to see it," the champion's father, Miguel Cotto Sr.

"Bleeding out of his nose, bleeding out of his ears. You had to see how deep his wounds were. It's impossible to explain. I couldn't explain how someone with gloves could do that."
    -----
"I feel much better and happy with myself. I think that this is the right moment for this fight, because I have everything back that was taken from me during Margarito's victory. Things that he stole from me, and things that he grabbed for myself, you know? I have it all back, and I feel much, much better right now."

You can't use this with Floyd.

    http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2012/04/18/de-la-hoya-workhorse-cotto-must-pass-mental-test/

Floyd does not care normally about knocking someone out. In his book, points counts just as good as a KO.

Not in recent years - He kept saying he would KO ortiz and would go on the attack to get it, Against mosley he said he was disapointed and should have started a round or two earlier in trying break/walk shane down

    Mayweather, PETA trade shots

    http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/boxing/post/_/id/1340/mayweather-peta-trade-shots

On Saturday's debut screening of HBO's "24/7", Mayweather was questioned by an off-camera interviewer about his training camp.

"In this training camp, we're boxing nonstop, and when we get in the ring, it's called the doghouse," Mayweather said. "So if you look at the ring, it's always surrounded by a bunch of people, 'cause that's the doghouse. When you go to a dog fight and you watch pitbulls fight ..." And here he pauses, seeming to understand he has entered into iffy, Michael Vick-ian territory.

He continues: "I don't want to get in trouble by -- what's the people called, PETA? I don't want to get in trouble with the PETA people, but ... the animal rights people, but ****, I don't give a ****, 'cause I wear mink coats. I'm gonna wear chinchilla and I'm gonna rock mink coats. The same people want to tell you, 'You can't wear animal fur and ****, them's the same people that's eating chickens, eating cows, eating steak. So **** what they're talking about."

    --------

PETA launched a counterpunch at Mayweather. After watching the segment, a spokesperson offered PETA's official statement on the matter:

"People who proudly admit to wearing fur are either ignorant or arrogant about animal suffering. And people who allude to attending dogfights are inviting the authorities to investigate a potential felony"

"PETA has an all-vegan office policy, and the people who work for PETA do so because they are driven by the cause to end cruelty to animals. Typically, the majority of employees are already vegetarian or vegan when they come to PETA."

    Khan on the fight http://www.espn.co.uk/boxing/sport/story/147098.html

"I reckon Mayweather wins against Cotto, but will be a skilful match," Khan said on Twitter. "Mayweather's speed will be an upside, but I like how tight and composed Cotto is."

Khan has said he is looking to emulate Mayweather when he takes to the ring against WBA and IBF light-welterweight supremo Lamont Peterson for a second time during May.
