Who else do Boxxer realistically have for UK headliners given that Whittaker, Clarke, Eubank Jr, Buatsi and Denny are now on Riyadh Season cards? Azim-Eubank Riley-Chamberlain Looking pretty thin outside of those if we're being honest. Also a shame that Wardley-Clarke goes from potentially being a fight that would attract crowds in the UK to a sideshow on a Riyadh PPV most people probably won't even know is happening.
Why waste time spending your own money and hiring out venues etc when you can just get some bloke using Saudi sportswashing money to put it on and take your % cut.
100% correct, strange times ahead . Poor UK cards with poor headline acts. Alot of empty arenas coming up in the UK or we go back to York Hall and community centres .
The 2 main fights are good but the rest are mismatches. On paper, this is the worst Saudi card so far. I am disappointed.
100% agree, I'm in Liverpool and used to enjoy the boxing at the arena 10-15 years ago, can't remember the last time I was interested in going due to poor cards a d or headline fights
some short memories on this forum. the three main bouts would’ve been their own headliners 5 years ago, with Shakur v Cordina on at 4am from a ballroom in New Jersey
A lot of people sleeping on Cordina i feel. He was struggling at the weight when Cacace took him out. He is a decent skilled boxer so with going up in weight and his skillset I think he will give Shakur something to think about.
Since Benn ate some moody eggs, Cordina hasn't looked the same. I'll be incredibly skeptical of him until he shows that incredible power again.
Im not sure what more can be asked for in a card. Unification to top it, world title fight under it remember Massey went to points v Parker, Wardley v Clarke was a classic, Stevenson v Cordina world title fight and I think Whittaker v Cameron absolutely fantastic matchmaking. The Heaney v Pauls card was an aboslute cracker in UK, AJ v Dubois next month in UK and Nick Ball homecoming
Wardley v Clarke for the British title being in Saudi is distressing, just as it was when Wardley v Adeleye was last year. I've acquiesced to big international events taking place in Riyadh now, because the level of card is generally so elevated. No doubt this would have been a Sky Box Office headliner with a mediocre undercard. But a British title fight should take place in the UK, no ifs, no buts. It would surely have sold a 'full arena' O2 out this time, no curtains. I hope Shalom, Warren and Hearn remember domestic fans - and that more of the bigger names in British boxing do the same. Imagine Ball has accepted a fair chunk less to fight on home soil in October instead of Riyadh, so credit to him. Just hope enough fans turn out to make it a good event for him.
Matchroom has long existed to sell TV airtime, with the crowds just part of the spectacle rather than a necessary component. It'd be a shame if Warren went down that road just because of Saudi, Shalom has never really known any different.
Wow. Good Card, and whilst not wanting to sound ungrateful I actually find these overly stacked cards are too long, especially if they're in the USA. I fell asleep a couple of times during the last-one and missed most of Crawford fight along with the two heavyweight fights. Also, shocked to see that Eddie is feeding Cordina to Shakur, as it's going to be a very long-road back for him after he get's outclassed here, unless off-course he's back on the eggs and land's another haymaker.
Cards being too long has nothing to do with the quality. Plenty of shite cards where the boxers couldn't punch through rice paper end up with the main event finishing past midnight (UK time).
