    Roberto Castaneda, who he brutally knocked out and Vyacheslav Gusev, who he went the distance with, both of which aired on Showtime and both decent scalps. Those were the two performances I was referring when I said "just before" he fought Lomachenko.

    No, Castaneda was a solid journeyman and Gusey who at the time was a solid contender. As opposed to Loma losing to Salido and beating Jose Ramirez, who was pretty much as you say... a bum. There's a reason why half the site was picking Russell for the win at the time, mostly based off of his performances on ShoBox cards.
