I'm not trying to hate on Dirrell, it's boring now apart from anything else and I'll be glad to see him return, but I found this line really funny in a Ring Q&A "I predict that it will be a tough fight. Andre Ward does have a slight problem with guys who are rough in a fight. Andre knows how to get rough right back. But I'm hoping that he doesn't fall into that category where he gets caught up in Froch's game like I did. Even though I still feel like I won the fight, that was back when I didn't know a lot about holding. If Andre can keep his game plan going, then he will win this fight." http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/...mind-has-never-been-sharper-than-it-is-today-
Quite a few people had Andre winning that fight, but yeah, let's poke and laugh at such a ridiculous statement. This content is protected Edit: I didn't read the holding bit. Yeah, that's quite funny actually. He was really bad that night.
Holding is a pretty important part of boxing, like it or not. Watch Hagler/Hearns and tell me Hearns wouldn't have benefitted from knowing how to hold.
I see what you're saying but just to play devils advocate- Dirrell was taking alot of punishment when he was trying to hold against Froch, IMO, it was one of the reasons he lost the fight. He didn't know how to hold while stopping Froch from wailing away. He couldn't seem to understand why the ref didn't jump right in everytime Dirrell he grabbed on to Froch, when Froch still had free hands. Dirrell watches too much Joe Cortez.
i don't see the funny part of it. If he was good at holding he probably wouldn't have lost a point for it right? Smart holding and holding is not the same.
Only humorous to those who do not understand boxing. All Dirrell is saying is he has improved his technique in the clinch.
