And people wonder why I'm sceptical......

    From March 28th

    http://www.badlefthook.com/2010/3/28/1394059/andre-dirrell-out-of-the-hospital

Rick Reeno of ***********.com reports that for the most part, Andre Dirrell appears OK after a hospital visit resulting from last night's DQ win over Arthur Abraham in Detroit:

"Andre was just released from the hospital. He tested negative in the brain scans. We did the urine tests. The commission was there," [promoter Gary] Shaw told ***********.com.

Dirrell was knocked out when Abraham landed a roundhouse right as Dirrell was prone on the canvas after slipping on a mat logo in the 11th round. He won the fight by disqualification.

It's good news that he's negative on the brain scans, which means he's probably not in quite the awful shape some feared. What I mean is, I'm guessing his boxing career is no longer in doubt, and I don't think his injuries are quite as serious as plenty of things you'll see caused by legal action in the ring. This is a pretty standard in-and-out time with the hospital that boxers go through after their fights, and with the brain scans being negative, he's quite probably out of the woods on the worst.

He's going to be OK, and he'll make his next fight with Andre Ward later this year (or early next year, the way this tournament is unraveling and with Ward not fighting Allan Green until June 19).

Medical science is scratching their heads with this one.

Some way some how this awesome tournament was going to turn into a three ring curcus. Time will sort everyting out, once again but in the mean time the people who support the sport will suffer.

I am skeptical of Dirrel's condition as well. Perhaps it will be a time issue or perhaps him and his buddy SOB Ward got together and decied to throw a ****** wrench into this tournament. Regardless; Ward now has one less difficult fight and another hometown date for himself.

If there is in fact damage, I always suspected it was the right hand with 30 seconds to go in the 3rd. Slow motion replay at 9:20 video. Its the source of the red swelling around his temple and the start of the weird flinching he keeps doing for the remainder of the fight. It was also interesting that an interview after the fight, Dirrell said he was certain it was a punch to the temple that injured him and was the surprised the DQ punch caught him in the jaw on the replay video.

Dirrell: My fiance, Alaia Zamora, was with me watching it. I was still anticipating waiting the whole time until the punch had come. It was explained to me when I got hit, where I got hit at, but I still didn't expect it to be the way that it was. I thought that I had gotten hit in the temple, because my temple was very sore.

My head was hurting really bad like I said, and my jaws were hurting. And when I watched the fight, I actually saw that I had slipped, went to get back up, and so I'm more or less up on all fours, looking down. And then he brings the hook in and connected right on my jaw. I believe that my mouth was open a little bit.

And I hated watching it. I didn't even want the camera on me. I hated watching it. It wasn't a good feeling

Perfect post. Unless we're doctors we really can't have an opinion that holds value in this situation.

Another great post. I take this matter more seriously because they say it's a brain injury but like someone said earlier, maybe sparring exacerbated it.

How about any recent scans? Maybe his condition got worst we don't know that. Again, I'm only speculating.

for real though, that didnt look to have done that much damage than people tend to think.. i mean if he really was out, i woudnt expect him to ..

    Pause abit..
Put His Hands on his face (facepalm style)
    fall sideways and flat
    then roll over -.-

when comparing this to the Bika Clip (on another thread i think..) it really does look fake/an act

To be fair, it wouldn't be the first time someone had a delayed reaction.

    Pacquiao-Barotillo
    Marciano-Layne

What we do know is straight after the AA fight he gets the all clear.
Walks around for 6 1/2 months and the boxing community, Showtime etc don't hear anything about headaches, nausia, imbalance, sickness.
1 month ago we hear he doesn't want to fight his good friend Ward.
Without even sparring the news suddenly breaks he has neurological problems (wasn't he cleared?:huh) and the fights off.

This doesn't seem strange to you?
There was NO condition to get worse in the first place! He was cleared.

the super six is becoming a bigger disappointment every week it seems. it's a sorry sack of **** at this point. half of the original fighters have dropped out. probably calls for an immediate cancellation in any other sport. first taylor, then kessler, now dirrell? are you serious. I understand injuries happen (taylor should have never been considered) and it seems that the withdrawals are all legit but the tournament itself isnt even the super six world boxing classic anymore. imagine watching the nba finals without the starting lineups? or the world cup with practice players? that's what's happening with the tournament.

You know what I'd agree, that's the kind of punch to do it and the reaction (blinking, touching the temple) is evident straight away.
But surely to fight another 7 rounds the combination of trauma would worsen the bleed and it would show up on scans?
