Hopkins is always dogging Calzaghe for never defending or fighting outside the UK. Joe fought outside the UK twice in his pro career, Hopkins only fought abroad once in his pro career. I think B-Hop is drinking too much of that old man juice:dead , just hope he doesn't keep drinking it during training camp; I saw they are scheduled for April 13 @ Yankee Stadium.

I'm sick and tired of this same stupid ass argument. When the **** are you people going to pick up a ****in map, learn some geography, and stop being so ignorant. The U.K is about the size of Oregon. The U.S and Europe are a fair comaprison as far as size goes. So Calzaghe taveling outside of the U.K but still in Europe is equivlant to Hopkins fighting across the U.S

All I'm saying is that Hopkins is using this argument alot as if he has defended his belt outside of the U.S. which he has never done. Regardless of the size of the country it is still his home country.

Not to mention that the USA is the mecca of boxing and the vast majority of hispanic and Russian fighters live and fight here, so there is no need to travel to europe and fight a bunch of european bums. Hell Winky Wright made a career traveling across europe and beating those stiffs.

Im going to go with you on this one Bigreg and go with a Philly fighter. This would have been lopsided 6-7 years ago

What the ****, do I have to draw a picture for you? The U.S is much bigger than the U.K, it's a much farther trip to go from the U.S to the U.K then it is to go from the U.K to Germany. Quite simply put, Hopkins has traveled more miles during his careeer than Calzaghe. If Nard was fighting pretty much all of his fights in Pennslyvania, then you would have a point. As it stands, your argument is seriously flawed.

Consider how weak Hopkins's argument is though. If Calzaghe has fought all the best competition in his weight class during his title reign, does it really matter that he defended the belt at home? Legacy is about who you fight not where you fight them. And last time I checked the champ has the pull in where they defend their belt, not the challenger (unless it's Oscar de la Hoya).

Nope considering that Super middle has been considered one of the weakest divisions in boxing since its inception, what, 20 years ago lol?

Just because you defended your belt against 20 bums, means you just defended your belt against 20 bums.

Just like Mayweather said to Hatton, "Hatton aint fought 43 Mayweathers, if he did he'd be 0-43".

You judge a fighter by his comp.

You can't fault a fighter for the quality of opposition in his division. All you can do is give him credit for dominating it. Second, Mayweather's comment is bloated because no one's record could be that full of great comp. If a fighter has 10 great fighters on his resume that is truly exceptional, but not many even come close to that. Finally, just cuz you don't respect a fighter's ability doesn't make him a "bum". The only bums in boxing are the fighters who don't try their hardest in training and fight their hardest in the ring.

Ok I give Calzaghe for dominating a **** poor division with alot of scrub fighters, while Roy Jones, Hopkins, Oscar, Wright, Tarver, Mosley,Trinidad ect were out there to be fought in other divisions. Calzaghe could have shed or gained a few pounds to fight them. Imagine if Floyd had stayed at superfeather, I guarantee he could have 20 title defenses too and win all his fights pretty easily. But he went looking for a challenge.

I dont care much for undefeated records. Its really easy to cultivate an undefeated record these days in boxing. I'd rather a fighter fight a another proven fighter then duck behind an 0.

I agree with your assesment about changing weight and taking risks with the possibility of lossing. Personally I think Calzaghe and Hopkins careers are very much alike, but Hopkins has had more high profile fights, and probably made less money in his career. So financially Hopkins probably needs Calzaghe as much as Joe needs Hopkins for his legacy.
