Can't pick an option in the poll because a proper one doesn't exist. Fury will stop Usyk if they fight.
Two reasons. 1) Heavyweight boxing has been a passion of mine since I was a kid. Back then the likes of Lewis, Holyfield, Tyson and Bowe ruled the division. Bowe ducked Lewis, true, but apart from that, these guys fought pretty much everyone who was anyone at the time. This is the golden standard for me from a boxer. The division was in a dire state during the Klitschko era - partly it was their doing but partly because the talent pool was very small. Now, no matter what casuals say, the division is full of exciting talents and styles. But the division is being stalled and destroyed by Fury's activities. He is constantly ducking fights but not before leading everyone down the garden path for months while the WBC keep allowing him to pull these things off. Just in the past twelve months and just out of the top of my head, he was challenged by Usyk, Joshua, Joyce, Zhang, Hrgovic, Ruiz, Bakole and Makhmudov. And what did he do? Fought a pointless trilogy against the corpse of Chisora, put it on PPV and now he is about to fight an exhibition against a non-boxer while fat as a pig because he doesn't even train. All of this is destroying the reputation of boxing and the up-until-recently most prestigious belt. People keep turning away from boxing to UFC and whatever, fights are not getting made, the division is slow. That's on Fury and Fury alone because he either is involved in such fights not getting made or he set the precedent for the likes of Wilder or Ruiz to be so inactive. Fury made this behaviour acceptable and his enablers keep giving him carte blanche hence others in the division take note. He once seemed as the saviour of the division when he took the belt off Wlad in 2015. Then it all went downhill from there and by today, the division is in an even worse state than it was when he looked like the one to lift it up once again. That's all on him, he is single handedly destroying the marquee division. 2) Usyk is my favourite HW of the last 25 years and Fury's cowardice and constant gaslighting (with the assistance of the WBC) mean he will most probably be denied the opportunity to achieve a historical feat by becoming the first undisputed champion in both CW and HW in the for belt era. Fury's career management directly affecting Usyks career so I'm obviously invested. There's a stark difference between condemning Fury as a boxer and Fury as the non-boxer. I'm not particularly keen on the guy outside of the ring either with his misogynist, homophobic, nationalist, anti-semitic rants but wouldn't care about him too much either. As soon as he retires for good and/or gets stripped or loses the belt hence stops derailing the division, I won't waste a single character talking about him. But until then, this is the only thing we as fans can do. Make no mistake: fighters and promoters do hear the fans when the fans make enough noise. Boxing is one of the handful sports where fans can and do form the landscape. When Fury ducked Usyk and they announced the Ngannou "fight", the public backlash was so huge that Warren kept appearing in radio talk shows and whatnot on a daily basis trying to pull off some damage limitation. This wouldn't have been the case in football or basketball or whatever in a similarly controversial situation. Fights that the fans are loud enough about do tend to get made. Promoters are active on social media too, they engage with the fans there etc. so it does matter what we as fans say - if there are enough of us saying those things.
I'm with you 100% on Fury but there are plenty of other things to discuss with regards to boxing. So why not focus on that?
We don't need a Usyk fan excuse thread because we know what they'll say: 1. Uysk was always too small. 2. Fury waited for Usyk to get old 3. Clinching is illegal in boxing Fury should have been DQ'd Thing is I am a Usyk fan but I acknowledge all these things prior to the bout not after. the midget is getting slammed.
There will be excuses on both sides, some will be valid, some will be ridiculous. Happens in every single big fight where both guys got big fan bases. Usyk will have been too small, too old and too damaged from the war. Fury's old habits will have caught up to him, he'll have been under a lot of mental stress, he'll have been softened up by the Wilder fights. There will also be contingents that default to neither guy being any good, largely to dismiss the guy that won; "Usyk is an old blown up Cruiserweight who only beat a mentally fragile AJ," "Fury is just a washed up fat junkie who only beat an old man and a guy who only had one punch in his arsenal." I've kinda got to a point where I've given up on seeing it. Fury's talk of fighting another MMA guy after Ngannou doesn't have me optimistic, and even though I'm sure Usyk wants Undisputed and a fight with Fury to get it, I feel like he's one of the guys who wants to retire from the sport and not be retired by it. If Fury does have aging out plans for Usyk, it will only result in him retiring before a fight can take place. At this point I'll be content to see Usyk fight Hrgovic, Zhang and maybe one more big name before he rides into the sunset. I hope it's Fury, but failing that I'd take someone like Wilder or Ruiz. Please God, don't let it be someone like Charr/Miller, AJ again or a circus fight with Canelo. I'd also be happy to see Fury fight whoever, so long as they're real boxers. Even if they're guys with next to no hope, least we'd know they'd come to try, and sometimes that's all it takes to make a fight interesting.
Fury's talk of another MMA bum is just hype. Jon Jones cannot fight him due to UFC slave contracts. It's just typical Fury trash talk of pretending he won't fight certain people. He always flip flops that's the fun of it! He won't give Usyk or his team one glimmer of hope in till the Saudi's put $1billion in his bank, then it's go time.
Step down you mean? After getting knocked out with a legal body punch, getting saved by the ref and complaining like a ***** every time he got hit in the body after that Usyk gets zero respect . Fury was part of one of the greatest heavyweight trilogies ever
Klitschko plays with Fury - Klitschko had a bad night underestimated Fury Wilder by body bag - Wilders a bum hasn’t fought anyone Dillian Whyte by stoppage - Dillian is washed his chin is gone… blah blah blah…. The Fury hate over here is near the AJ hate over in BB…
USKY had 36 rounds go at battering chisora/Joshua level bums at heavy and couldn’t budge either one. Feather fisted cruisers don’t batter twenty stone ATG gypsy tanks. Shame fury isn’t interested in the fight as winning undisputed against an unbeaten opponent would look good for his legacy. before anyone mentions Steve Cunningham, just double checked and he got knocked out in his backyard by fury.
Hope you're right man, I'd love to see these two guys meet in the ring. Regardless of what can be said about Fury's attitude at times, the man has an immense amount of talent. It would be a shame to see him squander it with guys who aren't even professional boxers when there's such a tantalizing fight with another amazingly talented guy right there.
