AJ should drop both the IBF and WBO titles because taking on both Pulev and Usyk before Fury makes no sense from either a economic point of view or a legacy point of view, unless they are playing the long game like Mayweather and Pacquiao, trying to extract as much value as they can by allowing the rivalry to go on for years and years to such an extent that the sporting element of the contest would be immaterial because they were both old and over the hill. There is also the hard fact that many of my illustrious predecessors in this thread have alluded to: the Usyk fight has banana skin written all over it. Pulev is a wasteman with squatters rights to the number one contender position. I don't envisage he will cause AJ any trouble, but he brings no value.
If Usyk is good enough to beat Joshua, then he deserves to get the chance at Fury instead anyway, so I don't really get the "risky" comments. Usyk beating AJ would open up a great fight between two unbeatens for the undisputed, so can't see a problem with that. But my opinion is the belts don't matter though and I'd like to see Fury-Joshua as soon possible, I just want to see #1 v #2 as soon as possible. So, yeah, after Joshua beats Pulev and Fury beats Wilder (assuming they do), they shouldn't let mandatories get in the way.
I don’t know how anyone can have a problem with Joshua willing to fight Usyk. The same people who tell him to walk away are the first people who would call him a shithouse if he vacated, including Fury.
Yeah, vs out of prime old Kliscko. Not a marquee win. Easily predicatble win. To have marquee win A.J should beat Fury not out of prime big names like Klitschko or Povetkin. I do not compare Holmes from 1980 th with Holmes from 1988 th. Beat out of prime boxers is not legacy or marquee fight.
Looks that both of them are eddies boxers. Otherwise, yeah, it might be damn well sold fight, also both are Olympic gold medalists, this might add real pepper to get good sales.
100%. I do think he’ll be stripped or forced to vacate by the WBO but all those saying he should just drop the belt like it’s nothing might want to consider just how hard it is to win a world title.
There’s people in this thread who are claiming he wants money over legacy and in the same breath saying he should drop belts and effectively cash out vs Fury. You couldn’t make it up.
This. Not to mention if Fury v Usyk was made tomorrow the same people saying AJ should vacate would be excited as hell for that fight.
Absolute nonsense Vlad was still top 3 st the time despite age and looked decent Im sure AJ would have prefered a younger version on his CV but without a Delorian that wasn't an option
