As far as Fury goes, you can't teach 6'8", but I'm pretty sure Joshua has him beat by miles in terms of natural talent. As far as Saunders goes, he's the opposite of natural talent. Not very fast or strong but he's got good enough ring IQ to out think fighters who are faster and stronger than himself. He's not gifted, but he's obviously more disciplined and has honed his technique more than average.

A more naturally gifted guy would maybe be somebody like Kovalev, Beterbiev, Gvozdyk, or Golovkin who all have sledgehammers for hands. Gary Russel Jr or Adrien Broner are both fairly gifted with speed. Spence and Porter seem to have exceptional stamina. I can't think of anyone who unites all of those gifts in the current crop of talent though. No Ray Leonard, Roy Jones, or Manny Pacquiaos, as good as Lomachenko and Bud Crawford are.

I dont think they are gifted at all.
Average power and speed. Looked like **** on numerous occasions. Constant lack of dedication.

But they are crazy mother****ers and that seems to do the trick. They just dont give a ****.

I don't think there has ever been a heavyweight of Fury's size that has moved as well as him(Vitali comes closest but he lacked a certain fluidity). He has a reflexive ability that defies his mass and cannot be taught. The worst part is he squandered three years of his prime unnecessarily. Whatever natural gifts he had will never be fully realized.

Depends what you mean by naturally gifted, because skills aren’t a natural gift.

They have both been training essentially since they were old enough to throw a punch. I’d say that boxers who have been training a very short amount of time but are able to reach a high level are the ones who are naturally gifted.

I agree with pretty much everything here except I think you're discounting
Fury a bit. I think his talent his quite natural. He's 6'9 and for all intents
and purposes should be a lumbering oaf in the ring, but he's a quick handed, quick
footed mover. Very unusual for his size. And I think he has good muscle memory.

Als0, I'd add Keith Thurman in as far as natural talent. Speed and pop, also stamina.

You're right though, there are no Roy, Manny, or Leonards that put it all together right now,
though Crawford and Loma come closest.

    For sure.

Whilst we're talking about natural gifts though who wins if it could be arranged over 5000m, Hughie Fury or Mo Farah?

Saunders perhaps. He has been more consistent in his career. Tyson though, is being judged largely off one or two standout performances. Styles make fights and we've also seen him in terrible performances where he was outboxed by John McDermott and knocked down heavily by the likes of Cunningham and Pajkic, who are nowhere near world class.

Skills aren’t a natural gift imo, they have to be learnt. If fury and Saunders were kept away from boxing from birth and had started boxing one year ago, they would not have the skills they currently have, but they would have close to the same power, chin, speed etc.

This^ Natural gifts are speed, agility, power, reflex's, stamina, height, reach etc Nobody is born knowing how to cut a ring off effective or how to counter punch, skills are 100% learned.
