Tyson Fury and Josh Warrington both seemed to not have enough power to punch a hole through wet tissue but when Fury fought Wilder he fought like he had Mike Tyson's power and Warrington seemed to hit harder than ever before against Frampton. Always hear the 'you can't teach power' line from coaches so what happened?
In Fury's case, balance and punching technique. He's still not a hard puncher, otherwise wilder wouldn't have survived the 3rd, let alone beyond that. He was on wobbly legs even before the KD. A real puncher would have blasted him out.
Fury put weight on, sat down on his shots more. He also used this weight to tire out Wilder. Let's remember, Wilder finished the fight standing so it isn't like he scored a genuine KO. Warrington just overwhelmed Frampton more than anything. We've seen Frampton down against much lesser fighters anyway.
Sometimes, its not a case of whether they have power or not, its whether they implement it. Fur spent most of his career, bxing and flicking out his jab and back hand. On Saturday, he sat down on his punches and went for it. Mayweather could have probably KO'd more people but he always made sure he was totally balanced ad not in a position to be countered. Its HOW you fight, as well as whether you actually have power.
Fury covered this in the Costello and Bunce podcast. Apparently: 'Fabulous power was bestowed on me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said "By the power of Grayskull, I have the power!" mild mannered Josh Warrington became the mighty Josh Warrington and I became Tyson Fury 2.0, the most powerful man in the universe.
