Hello gang, it’s been a long time so apologies if this has already been posted. A little thought experiment. Let’s say Chisora somehow beats Fury, does this upset rank as a greater upset than Tyson-Douglas? As someone that wasn’t even born when Douglas shocked the world, it really is hard for me to have an unbiased opinion on this one. Interested to hear others perspectives though
Nobody thought Douglas would win. Everybody thought he was some tomato can that Tyson would KO in a round or two. I cannot overstate what an utter shock to the sports world it was when Douglas not only won, but dominated nearly the entire fight and KO'd Tyson. Every local and national newscast covered it. Every newspaper covered it. It was as if pigs suddenly did fly. As if up became down. Chisora beating Fury wouldn't even be in the same league as this.
Welcome back Webbiano. As for which would be the greater upset, for me it’s not even close. Imho, Buster’s win over Mike Tyson is the greatest upset in all of sports, which could be argued, but that’s my opinion. Chisora beating Fury wouldn’t come all that close in my book.
On paper yes. Douglas was at least a contender. In the media's eyes no. Chisora is at least a fighter the people have heard of, and any off nigh on Fury's part, would be easy to explain in retrospect. My turn to ask a question. Is anybody even going to be watching the fight, for any reason other than that Chisora might get lucky, and they don't want to have missed Tyson Douglas?
Well theres a few ways to look at it, Douglas was actually very underrated coming into Tyson fight. Looking at his form he'd had a stand out performance vs Mike Williams, good wins over solid names like Berbick, McCall. Looking at Tyson right before the fight like getting dropped by Greg Page in sparring, and his turbulent life style. Aswell as Douglas having alot of attributes over Tyson like Reach, Size, Height, i think you could say with hindsight an upset might of been on the cards. As for Fury vs Chisora well Chisora unlike Douglas is coming towards the end of his career, and has not had any string of solid wins coming into this fight. Fury also holds alot of physical advantages over Chisora, plus a prime Chisora didn't really come close to beating Fury in 2 previous fights. So overall i would say Chisora beating Fury would be more shocking. Just because of the form of both opponents coming into their fights, even though Mike Tyson was probably seen as a more mythical unbeatable god back then.
I see no justification for this match, but I will watch,[for free,] the Dubois fight on the undercard.
Tyson was undisputed lineal champion, a media sensation, and extremely popular (I'm waiting for Tyson Fury's punchout video game). It was a massive upset everyone talked about
Well that could actually be the case here, people tuning in thinking hoping that it's another Tokyo. Doubt it like, but who knows?!
I was thinking about this just yesterday funnily enough. Yes,as an upset it would rank in the same ballpark as Douglas-Tyson.
Morning,Fergy. If by a very slim chance,Fury is distracted enough or complacent the fights between Tim Witherspoon and James 'Bonecrusher' Smith come to mind. Tim gave James a boxing lesson and shut him out over ten rounds in fight number one,but in the return Tim got blitzed in round one. He simply was n't there, mentally,on that occasion. I can't really envisage that happening with Tyson and Del Boy,though.
Think your right, Stevie. It's really gonna have to take a lot, for Derek to upset the odds. Then again, it's boxing, mate. We know at times how unpredictable it can be!
Interesting responses, like I said, having not been born when Douglas beat Tyson will always mean I’ll never fully appreciate the magnitude of the upset, but for me Chisora beating Fury is Leicester winning the premier league level of upset. Probably the only moment in sport I have witnessed that could ever even match it.
