Ortiz is just stupid. I thought yesterday there was a chance he would comically unravel but even that surprised me.

The whole incident just sums up Ortiz's character perfectly when you think about it. How often in the pressers or in 24/7 did you hear him say something complimentary about Mayweather and then say something like: "with all due respect bro, I couldn't care less" or some other corny bollocks? Then he goes on to show his crazy side by headbutting Mayweather in the fight, and follows by apologising to the extreme afterwards. He's a loon.

Agreed, it was impressive. But not that impressive IMO, although I'm glad against Mosley and Ortiz he's stopped employing evasive lateral movement that stinks the place out and actually comes to do a proper job. I don't believe it's to do with his legs slowing down either, I think he's really got the hunger again to prove people wrong. But it doesn't impressive me that much because of how obviously geared to him this fight was; we all know of Ortiz's deficiencies. Him constantly apologising after a blatant headbutt again exposed his mental fragilities, and his chin has never been the best. In terms of styles, well, it's been said many times already.

This is what Floyd should be doing to fighters of Ortiz's caliber. I think I called this yesterday in your thread. It's also what he should've done against fighters like Baldomir, Judah, Marquez, Hell, he should've stepped on the gas against old Oscar and 147lb Hatton.

He is one of the best fighters currently operating. But let's see him prove it against someone that can actually test him. He comes out and fights like this against Pac and we see what both men are really about. Let's see him do it, not fight Khan, who is likely to suffer a similar fate to Ortiz, but fight Pac. Did Ortiz partake in Olympic style drug testing for this fight? I genuinely don't know the answer, not taking the ****.

Ortiz has been given a lot of media training by GBP, so he says what makes sense for marketing himself, even if it makes no sense because of the extremes he takes. He's clearly not very bright and is a bit emotional.

There's easier ways to rig a fight than headbutting someone then getting knocked into next week by a left-right combo whilst your not looking. The fight was most certainly not rigged.

I can't really see the controversy, they'd already touched gloves and kissed and made up. Cortez said fight, Floyd hit him.

No mate. Thats just Ortiz' mentality...."hey, ho, live to fight another day"

To me, theres no controversy within the rules, but the way that Mayweather seemingly accepted the apology and then sucker punched Ortiz as he was resetting after the apology was a bit dodgy.

But, as another ATG fighter once said, "it ain't a tickling contest"...;)

I can see your point of view, however.....

In the context of what had just happened i.e. a vicious, needless headbutt, I don't think you can appeal to any idea of sportsmanship. Ortiz had just taken the fight down to that level. If it had been an accidental low blow or something obviously unintentional then I might be more inclined to your way of thinking.

Yeah, fair enough I'm not really having a pop at Mayweather or justifying Ortiz' behaviour but it was a bit sneaky for want of a better word. I'd rather Mayweather tell him to stick his apology and then knock him out.

Last nights "I'm fine mate"....BANG!!! Was like a move from a pub car park fight.

Again Mayweather managed to look the bigger man in there. Amazing how he holds himself in a way which makes the other guy look impotent even when neither fighter is throwing. Just his stance looks threatening and coiled.

It's more that, rather than get fighting or bring his hands up, Ortiz just stood there, staring at Cortez!

Floyd can punch, even at 147, because he's fast, accurate and has excellent technique. He might not be a banger, but he does damage to even bigger guys like Oscar.

    WTF was Ortiz thinking?

I could see it happening, remembered the Mosley fight and before you know it Ortiz is out on floor. I remember having chance to do it in sparring once and thought 'no let him get back, do it properly'. Ortiz is just somewhat of a clown..

Floyd did nothing wrong imo and no rules were broken. Cortez said fight and Ortiz decided to stand there with his hands down. It's a fight at the end of the day and you can't expect Mayweather to do nothing in such circumstances

Was very impressed with Mayweather last night and if he does fight Pacquiao I think he would make it a very one sided affair. I dont think what he did last night was against the rules, just maybe a little unsporting. Ortiz had already hugged him, then touched gloves. He then came back in to embrace for a third time, was it really neccesary? Floyd was obviously angry and wasnt interested. Joe Cortez was at fault but Floyd was well within his rights to attack. The highlight was definitely the interview with Larry afterwards!
