Sadly at times, I've found it difficult to shake that feeling too. And the fans love nothing more than when a fighter can 'cut a good promo'.
I thought the ref was fine. Fury fell into the ropes and was given a standing 8. That's the rule. The ref did a lot of subtle stuff that was very good. He watched closely for fouls, gave a chance to work out of a clinch, and reminded the fighters of fouls he's watching for between rounds. People are acting like he was Harvey Doc last Saturday.
You can play this game with every fighter, you just have a typical hypocritical bias. So let's play it: With a different referee: Dubois's bodyshot isn't a low blow and Usyk has to fight on, what happens? Wlad is DQ-d against Povetkin for 12 rounds of wrestling. Wlad is DQ-d against many others for 12 rounds of wrestling. Wilder isn't given the lengthy recovery against Ortiz after being badly hurt. AJ is stopped for his own safety after Wlad decks him and has him drunk for a few rounds. [Groves was far less hurt against Froch and 'saved' by UK officials]. AJ is stopped against Usyk in the second fight round 12 after taking 'too many unanswered shots'. And so on.
This is never a good argument. Have you seen Usyk's face after the Joshua fight? And the rematch? Based on this nonsense, Joshua won both matches in dominant fashion. Usyk has always been one of those fighters who gets marked up easily. It's genetics; it has nothing to do with skills or how a match pans out. That's not to say Fury didn't have success against him. But trying to assess how good an opponent did against Usyk based on Usyk's face after the fight is never going to work. Briedis was his toughest fight by far still to this day, yet he didn't have so much as a bruise on his face after the fight. He schooled Joshua in dominant fashion, yet he looked like a raccoon with a split eyebrow after the fight.
