The Ruiz talks make far more sense. He's still a credibile foe that would actually add to Fury's legacy. But being a wee fat bloke with T-Rex arms Fury should beat him quite easily on the outside picking him off. The smart money would be on a more refined Joshus/Ruiz 2 game plan.
Just summarise what I posted in general. I like it for Zhang, except 1) he's 40 so this seems like short notice and a quick turn around 2) he's not top 15 with WBC The main positive is he gets his title shot! That's far better than an unwarranted rematch that would make even Matchroom blush. It's a good fight for Fury (if we can't have Usyk), but it does feel a little opportunistic given Zhang's age and that he just fought in April.
Fury adores a pound note more than any other active boxer. Given where Zhang is from the audience and viewership will be insane. I’m not sure how exactly it translates to revenue in that region but seems like there is a lot of money to be made.
"Fury in talks to fight" is literally even more dull a headline than Lawrence Okolie/Joshua Buatsi Vs TBA
Don't want. Zhang is 40yr old FFS. He gasses terribly after a few rounds. Fury will simply use movement plus tie him up regularly for a couple of rounds then beat the **** out of him. If he's not fighting Usyk followed by Joshua, he can feck off.
Exactly this. Team Fury couldn't have believed their luck when Zhang beat Joyce. Easy fight for Fury and an easy fight to sell off the back of the Joyce fight and all that PPV loot from China. Huge figures.
Good fight. Happy for Fury to fight either Zhang or Ruiz. So as long whoever the winner is, fights Usyk in December.
Purely looking at the best win of each and important results against other significant opponents: Zhang Beat Joyce (TKO6), lost to Hrgovic (controversial UD12) 1-1 Wilder Beat Ortiz (TKO10), lost x2 to Fury (TKO7, KO11), drew with Fury (controversial SD) 1-2-1 Chisora Beat Takam (TKO8), lost x3 to Fury (UD12, RTD10, TKO10), Usyk (UD12), Vitali (UD12), Haye (TKO5) 1-6 Chisora has the best "resume" in the division in terms of fighting notable opponents (all of those 6 losses were to Ring champions), Wilder has the best "resume" of the three in terms of getting results at the highest level (Joyce's ex-trainer admitted to avoiding a post-Wilder 1 Ortiz and no one save Wilder got a result against Fury, including ATG Wlad) and Zhang has the best "resume" of the three in terms of not being conclusively defeated at the present time, as well as having a better top win than Chisora does.
Bang on. They've done Wilderr/ Ruiz to death and its not come off. Chances are this wont either. But I wish it would. Zhang wouldn't win but would have as much chance as anybody. AND deserves his shot.
