To be fair I don’t think Fury’s real opinion on Usyk has ever got attention in the media. They should definitely revisit it, if they’re even aware. This content is protected
Fury backed out of fighting AJ three times too. Fury just wants to fight Chisora, Wilder and Wallin level guys. I really do hope Fury fights someone like Joyce, Ruiz, Hunter, Hrgovic, Sanchez and Bakole.
Completely agree. I don't doubt he's very difficult to manage - but it's pretty obvious he attracts lots of hangers on. I remember in the USA, around the time of BJS vs Canelo before the Wilder arbitration stuff.. there was a chance he was going to fight Joshua at the time. I distinctly remember his social media showing lots of random meals with celebrities, club appearances etc. Messing around with Tommy Fury. All of that is fine, but it felt like there were lots of people leeching off his fame and money and massaging his ego. I think he must also be really difficult to train, because he's such a natural boxer, there's not a great deal he can be taught from a technical point of view. Bar Usyk, he's probably the only HW who's in that situation. Even if you look down the ranks, perhaps only the likes of Canelo, Bivol, Berbertiev, Loma, Inoue and a few others who are in that situation. Some will argue that Sugar Hill has made him more aggressive and powerful, but I think some of it was simply down to his movement declining and changing his style. I always found the frolicking around shirtless stuff to be very strange between fighter and coach. I've got no idea what he's going to do next - he's potentially talked his way out of three huge paydays. Usyk 1, Usyk 2 and then perhaps Joshua. Also a generational chance for unification. Other than those two, I don't think there are that many big money fights out there for him. I see there are a few rumours of Joyce, which in theory would be easy to make, but it's not a money spinner and (even though I think his style is tailor-made for Fury) a huge risk. It's such a shame. I know it's a difficult point to argue right now, but I've always felt that deep down he's a good man. I've really enjoyed following his career, as I have Usyk's, so was genuinely excited to see them face off. Such a shame that Fury's ego and greed have scuppered it. The grotesque money aspect leaves an even more sour taste during the current economic climate.
What was really interesting about that (2017) was that Hearn successfully used the "he was hacked" excuse. That simply wouldn't fly now, 5 and a half years later.
Haha, well when you see "basics" in the supermarket vastly exceeding inflation, it makes quibbling over several million pounds by an already multi-millionaire seem rather grotesque.
Hmm.. you repetitively press the "3 times" thing.. but, as you're well aware, it doesn't account for any context. I'm pretty pissed off with Fury after this week, but I won't be wilfully omissive with the truth. Let's keep being objective.
