It's always been the way in British domestic fights. British title fights get scored by 3 judges but that's only been in the last 10 years or so, everything below that gets scored by the ref.
Yeah that was outrageous tonight. How the hell the score was 8-2 I cannot get my head around :huh. I had it 6-4 Fury, but I think I was being kind at times. All I can say is that at least Fury finished well, considering he had not gone past 4 rounds before. I personally think big mike paid off the ref, he has far too much money wrapped up in Fury for him to be losing to"McMuffin"
I think Mcdermott should have got the decision, I had him winning 7-3 but I don't think Fury was embarassed at any stage. Outfoxed by a more experienced fighter maybe but there were a lot of positives for Fury to take from it as well. Bearing in mind he had never been beyond round 4 before tonight and no-one knew how his chin or stamina would hold up if he was in a brawl I think he answered some questions even if he should have lost. He's still only 21 and I think he'll learn from this and win the re-match if there is one.
I felt it was a draw. Fury won 1, 5, 6, 9 & 10 - there was a lot of holding from McDermott, and even more bull**** commentary from the Sky team. To go from four rounds to ten in a single leap, against a guy that has done 12 on several occasions is an achievement, no matter what.
There's no judges at British domestic fights except British title fights, the ref scores it. He scored this one 98-92 to Fury.
One of Mike Tyson's fights (or all, I can't remember) in Britain was supposed to be scored that way as well. I recall the announcer saying the referee would score the bout if it went the distance, and when I heard that I thought WTF?
Correct both of them would of been scored by the ref had they gone the distance. Instead one lasted a round and the other two.
I had McDermott winning by 3 rounds, I suspect the referee gave Fury the benefit of the doubt in some rounds for his work-rate. Crap referee yes but I don't understand the Sky mob going nuts over it being a great fight, it wasn't. For such a big bloke with such supposed 'skills' Fury was remarkably easy to land on, and McDermott doesn't hit that hard either. Having said that Fury never looked troubled by any of the shots he took so he has at least a decent chin. He's going to need to improve drastically to be a serious player though, he did answer a couple of questions tonight but he was hardly impressive.
One would imagine that the commentary would have influenced the odds on Betfair. They kept saying McDermott was four rounds up, the market would follow that to some extent. Like I said, the majority of people scoring in the live thread always had it closer. I wasn't watching the Betfair market, but have to question where you say the market was 'suspended' in the 9th round. Not sure why Betfair would suspend an in play market, their rules pretty much say that they don't do that. Unless you were watching a slightly delayed broadcast and the fight was actually over?
I've never seen the betting suspended early either and i use Betfair alot. Not sure why that happened it's a seems suspicious to me though :think I think they can suspend early if strange bets are being made and something looks amiss
This fight should be another advice to our british friends not to hype their men into the sky all the time. Every smart boxing fan knew that Fury is a solid guy on british level, only maybe on Euro level, and never ever on world level. And he never will be. I know it was his 8th pro fight, but the flaws were horrible. Both Klits would murder Fury within a couple of minutes.
