Please I can take most things but a yank telling us not over hype our fighters is too much.. Come on you yanks are renouned for over hyping unproven prospects hence the term "American hype job" and there are many many of these around at the moment :hi:
You can't win against the promoter's cash cow unless you knock them out. Seen it so many times here in Britain. The thing is the public aren't stupid. We've been force fed Amir Khan/Audley etc, now we're getting force fed Tyson Fury.
:admin No ****. He's 21, had 8 pro fights and he would get his arse kicked from the Klits.:rofl:rofl:rofl Nah **** off you're taking the **** with that one surely.
Thanks for the compliment. I am not a yank, but my english seems to be quite good. I learned english at school. I had the feeling that fury is hyped as hell. Some british people here opened threads like "Fury the next hope to save the HW-division". What I saw in his first real test was disappointing. That´s all. And BTW England wins the World Cup 2010.
It's to be expected that Fury would get some stick the first time he was in a close fight due to how much he was running his mouth...but let's get some perspective: - he put up a very credible performance against a 30 fight Britsh champ - his performance was not much different from what Danny williams managed against McDermott - Fury only had 7 fights experience - He offered McDermott a rematch twice in the post fight interview The only thing to complain about is the scoring, but that is not Fury's fault. So what if someone gets some hype, would you rather that no one tried to publicise themselves and boxing became an even more niche sport than it is already? Who cares if someone hypes themselves beyond their level, if the only people that were allowed to hype were worldclass then we would only hear from a handful of boxers. There is no pleasing some people. Fury & McDermott put on a good show and a rematch may be on the cards, which would be good to see. Fury did well considering his experience.
Its absolutely no fault to hype people. And I give Fury credit to fight McDermott in his 8th pro fight. But believe me Fury is not the next big thing in the HW-division. Even in a so called "weak" division (I think the Klits are definitely not weak) I´ll give you 20 men who beat a 2012 version of Fury.
I don't believe that he is the next big thing either, but boxing is entertainment and hyping himself has helped create interest in his fights, which is no bad thing when boxing needs as many fans as it can get. It doesn't matter how many people can beat him, fights need to be interesting at all levels otherwise boxing will suffer, there simply aren't enough world level fights to keep the casual fan interested. I don't think anyone can deny that there was more action in the 10 rounds of Fury v McDermott than in the vast majority of recent HW title fights. I couldn't care less if they would all beat Fury, at least I was entertained, which is the whole reason I watch boxing.
Fury will turn 24 in 2012 which is still young for a heavyweight and if he had 4 fights a year that would be 20 pro fights by late 2012, comparing that to say Lennox Lewis, Fury would be 4 years younger, had 2 less pro fights and much less ammatuer fights than Lewis had when Lewis fought his first world title fight (Fury didn't start boxing till he was 14). I'd say 2014/2015 is more when you could expect it to be comming into his time. That said, go on then, name 20 fighters that will be better than 2012 Fury.
2009: Povetkin Chagaev Solis Chambers Peter below 250 Gomez Thompson Valuev Boytsov Haye Ibragimov Ustinov Chakhiev (if steppin up to HW) Arreola below 250 Dimitrenko Toney Holyfield Adamek (if steppin up) K. Johnson I think all of them in their 2009-version are favorite to beat a 2012-Fury based on his last performance. I don´t know about Holy, but come on. They are all clearly better boxers than Fury and would take advantage of his flaws. Many of the listed would take Fury out with a right cross over his sloppy jab. Guys with a proper left hook take him out quick. Fury´s defense isn´t made for the world level. Right hand is somewhere defending his waist. No footmovement, no lateral movement, too easy target. A lot of work until 2012. Don´t get me wrong, Fury has proper handspeed and will, but his flaws are obvious.
Holyfield will be 49 in 2012, Toney will be 44 and he's slowing down now, I'd be pretty surprised if Vitali's still around in 3 years and without going through ever single fighter on that list, a lot of them are already mid-late 30's and will be well past their peak when Fury is comming into his (which I think will be later than 2012). Taking 2009 versions of most of the worlds top heavyweights and saying they'll be better than Fury in 2012 means nothing. I expected you to name better prospects or at least name fighters who are comming into their prime now and who could still be expected to be a force in 3 years. Fury has work to do and a lot to learn, no question about it but he hasn't even peaked physically yet. I expect him to become both much better technically and physically in the next few years. He's still young enough to learn and if he got someone like Steward training him I definately think he could compete at world level.
Without toney and Holy even the 2012 versions of that list beat Fury. Get real! Fury never will be anything special. He is british and his name is easy to remember. Thats why people here talk about him.
He quite clearly needs a new trainer for a start and needs to work on conditioning and core strength, i feel he needs to work on his right hand a lot, he clearly has power but his poor co-ordination with it is a huge problem, needs a complete overhall and rethink of his defensive technique as theirs not much point in having decent headmovement without a decent guard positives - can clearly dig in when needed and showed a lot of heart in the last couple of rounds to make the fight close, very good jab but needs to piston it instead of hanging it out at times as big john had an easy time of getting through the jab once fury had thrown it, i think furys footwork is quite decent for a guy of his size when hes content to just jab and move. i had big john winning by a point or 2 in the end
