His fanboys need to just stop with this drivel. Beating a 39 year old Klitschko in one of the most boring heavyweight championship fights ever and then beating an overrated bum destroyer, who has very little boxing skill and poor stamina in Wilder, does not make this guy an all-time great. He was popped for PEDs and took almost three years off because of this issue, then used mental health as an excuse to make people forget about the actual reason he was MIA. After returning to the ring from his hiatus he's faced a slew of bums outside of the Bronze Bum - Seferie, Pianeta, Schwarz, Wallin (struggled in this one) and Whyte (who is washed and was never that great to begin with, just AJ and Povetkin's leftover). I don't see how a sane boxing observer can claim this guy is some all-time great, especially with how inactive he's been. He does have skill for a big guy but stop with this undeserved praise please. Like we're all supposed to be in awe of him and worship the ground he walks on, no thanks. He would not have beaten a prime Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis or Wlad imo.
He's a little ATG, like Bowe, Patterson, Norton, etc. To put it in perspective, he will be remembered as a top 20 heavyweight. Considering that Boxrec says that 33,356 men have competed at heavyweight, and there are probably as many whose names were not recorded, that is greatness of sorts. He is not in the same converation as Ali, Louis, Lewis, Marciano, Johnson, Frazier, Foreman, etc. He is a not a top ten, and even top 15 would be pushing it. Nor do I believe he could even get there at this point. Not enough time and good opponents left, not to mention there is no indication that he is trying.
He is an ATG, no matter what happens now. He beats Usyk and AJ, he's a top ten lock. He loses to Usyk or AJ, he stays top 20 and promotes them to ATG level. Can't see a single scenario where he isn't remembered as one of the greats from now on.
Yawn Been going on since time immemorial threads about current Fighters having no chance against those from the past Fury could hang in any era.
ONLY 2 title defenses. dumped the belt and refused a rematch with wlad and then went on a three year bender. fought two literal nobodies in his first two fights when back. went life and death against wallin. NO!
As much as i criticize him, and there is every reason for that, if he beats both Usyk and AJ he beat the past old of the division in Klitschko, and he will be beat the current and prime ones in Wilder, Usyk and AJ. That is a top 10 achievement in my book.
