Pretty underwhelming numbers considering Ngannou had all the UFC fans behind him in the UK which TNT is the home off.
That was the whole idea with DAZN UK, but since then they have changed their strategy. Eddie "PPV is killing the sport of boxing" Hearn has second thoughts...
In line with what I expected. Despite the people on here who kiss his ring, he is a big star but he is not a commercial juggernaut. Poor numbers. Good on him for signing the Saudi deal on Usyk before this fight. Very well managed in terms of earning potential given the revenue he creates.
Glad it bombed. The Saudis must be thinking wtf have they invested in. Guess they won't care though aslong as it got good traction online.
I'd expect a card of 10 world champion fights for the price they pay- not a fat out of shape Fury fighting a MMA guy in his first ever fight
Problem was Ngannou was out of site out of mind. His UFC fame was years ago and since left hadn't fought anywhere. Not forgetting even at his peak in UFC he wasn't a huge draw on PPV.
Serious organised criminals exploiting technology is another huge factor. Reports suggest that 3 million people are on the books and growing rapidly by the month as word spreads. The recession is a big factor which is driving thousands of new customers per month elsewhere. That is why Viaplay and DAZN UK are making huge losses and failing to retain the customer base. The solution is less greed, lower subscription prices and abolish Box Office to compete.
