That's mainly due to the size differential though. Not to take anything away from Fury's defence but you know, he's actually bigger than Wlad whereas Wlad is considerably bigger than Haye. The fact Wlad struggled to land on Haye despite having a decent size advantage says a lot.
I agree - that's my point. Wlad didn't throw enough. Sometimes you have to accept that you'll waste 3 out of 4 punches in a flurry - it might be enough to change the scope of the fight. That's what Wlad did poorly, and credit goes to Fury for putting Wlad in that position. I'd put it more down to his reach than his speed, personally. He's fought faster fighters than Fury before - just none who were the size of Fury.
Fury wasn't going to throw punches no matter what Wlad did. He used the Haye game plan of trying to nick a Decision and it worked. under no circumstances was Fury going to engage it was a pretty boring fight was more like a Fencing competition than Boxing.
David Haye actually landed a lot more punches on Wlad than Fury did, they were just so fast that you couldn't see them on TV.
Well, the soccer ****ogy might work if you compare the number of times Haye flopped to the floor against Wlad vs. Fury, who actually stood up on his own two legs.
And there you have it. Styles make fights, and Fury's dimensions coupled with his style of fighting would have given Wlad problems at any time in his career....
