I wouldn’t read too much into that. Casuals are clueless, and most boxing fans are casuals. Also recency bias is strong. This article was published just a few weeks after Fury-Wilder 3. Beating the zero skill, zero resume Dosser was sold to the gullible masses who didn’t know any better as some sort of historical achievement. So it’s understandable that papers run stories like that at the time. I’m pretty sure if you asked the same people now, two years later and after the ducking of Usyk, Joshua, Joyce, Zhang etc. and the farce that were the Chisora and Ngannou fights, nobody in their right minds would rank Fury ahead of Lewis.

 

Fury simply cannot be trusted and has a history of avoiding fights and stringing along the fans. The guy is a complete waste of time.

 

I,m not a fury fan here and not advocating him but fury has 35hw fights , is the unified world champion and holds twice the ring magazine title .
He has beaten wlad , wilder , wallin , whyte , prime chisora etc .

Compare this to usyk with his little 5 hw fights where only aj is noteworthy and the rest are choosen bums .

I do not prefer fury but calling him a nobody in regards to sporting achievements is a bit childish

He is not a unified champion or the current holder of the ring belt. He also failed to rematch Wlad and failed for PEDs (unlike AJ and Usyk). He tried to avoid the Wilder trilogy, ducked Usyk, and wasted a year of his career fighting a pointless trilogy and nearly losing to an MMA fighter. He is the one who has ruined his previously excellent reputation.

Does he deserve credit for his career achievements, absolutely yes. I never called him a nobody, you did.

I think the only childish thing here is calling professional boxers bums on the internet.
