One of the most overhyped things in boxing in recent years is the intelligence of Tyson Fury, outside of the ring. Great boxer, one of the greatest heavyweights of this century but a man seriously lacking in self awareness.
The two issues around this, I reckon, are: 1) Fury loses home advantage if it's in Saudi. That means he's sacrificing something for their money whilst Usyk gains by it happening outside of the UK. 2) If it's in the UK the fight makes less and Fury is in business with Bob Arum. Uncle Bob, you might have noticed over the years, is rather keen on maximising his return and is taking a percentage loss if Fury prefers to have it at Wembley. So, my theory is that Fury has priced himself out of Saudi and Arum is digging his heels in over percentages at Wembley. Still think it will happen, but possibly later in the year.
If this isn't announced by 1st March I have my doubts Fury will be fighting Usyk on April 29 as the plan is for him to fight on that date regardless of the opponent. I know Joshua Usyk was easier to negotiate since Usyk was mandatory challenger but that was negotiated very quickly. I do give credit to Joshua for fighting Usyk both times especially after he was outclassed in the 1st - he could have easily vacated his title and avoided Usyk. There haven't been any rumoured other opponents for Fury though which makes me think the fight is likely to happen.
Very quickly? Joshua Usyk took ages, both times, you had Hearn coming out in interviews threatening to drop the belt.
I hope that doesn't happen because Dubois is very young and inexperienced still. Another poster on this / previous page mentioned Joshua. I was comparing the length of negotiations Jurgen. I don't remember Hearn threatening that. The Fury Usyk negotiations have been going on for much longer. They first said they wanted it to take place in February. Now the proposed date is April 29.
He came out numerous times and said that. Grated this may be taking longer, maybe not as long as the 2nd fight though
Usyk does have 3 of the major belts and beat Joshua himself twice. I think it's poor negotiating from Frank Warren and Queensberry. They don't have as good of a relationship with the Midlde-Eastern territories compared to Hearn and Matchroom. That's probably the reason.
from what I was told he had an initial offer of £35m that went to from what I was heard £50m which is what AJ got. Fury does not get anywhere near that in the UK and Usyk is being asked to essentially take close to half for a UK fight that favours Fury. As it stands this ain’t happening. If Ruiz fights Wilder from what I would guess the IBF will call their mandatory in the next 14-30 days if the WBA do not call theirs as Fury hasn’t fought a mandatory for close to a year.
