Bob Arum has said both sides were negotiating their pay individually with the Saudi’s and that Usyk was happy with his side. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/boxi...n=continue_reading_button#amp-readmore-target
B*ll*cks.... Finer details of a deal can't be agreed unless both parties are aware of them. Maybe he agreed that he would take 30m but the rights, broadcaster, ring walks etc all need to be agreed by both parties. I'm being presumptive by saying that the broadcaster couldn't have been agreed before Furys side went to the table, but there is nothing to tell me otherwise. I'm not defending Fury here I'm just stating my learned opinion.
The article quotes Bob Arum, from an interview with Gareth Davies. You can find another source containing the same quotes if you want.
The money Saudi we’re offering both parties was top end. To do that they want to buy the fight outright just like AJ vs Usyk and Paul vs Fury. They probed with the latter they can work with both platforms. the problems on the deal were with Fury and particularly arums greediness. arum want gaurantees the broadcaster was ESPn. Fury want a purse way and above his value. You can’t have both. You have to give something in return
Fury has beaten Wilder twice. Owns 1 Belt. Usyk has beaten Joshua twice. Owns 3 Belts. Based upon the above, having both cleared out the other 2 - at the time - of the Top Four, then 50/50 is THE only split to make. Asking for anything more is just pure greed.
Usyk is far too nice of a guy he needs to toughen up regarding negotiations. He’s the former undisputed cruiserweight champion, current undefeated heavyweight champion with 3 of the belts. If I was him I would tell Fury where to go, then let all the other top heavyweight promoters bid for a fight with me. Outside of Usyk who can fury really fight? He’s not a huge ticket seller on his own. AJ and Hearn will avoid fury if they see that he’s desperate, does he want Joyce? Probably not judging by his doubts/delays in fighting a “middleweight”. Usyk could fight wilder in the states for good money or Ruiz etc I’m sure showtime or another network would give him a good contract over 3-5 fights.
Yeah this fight ain't happening. Been going on too long now and mandatories will surely start getting called soon. A huge shame and makes it very difficult to support Fury. Most of us thought that although the Chisora fight was bad it was just about acceptable as long as he fought Usyk next. Can see him fighting Ruiz as an easy night's work and gives another stick to beat AJ. Fury must not care about his legacy as this will be the defining thing that he's remembered for when all is said and done imo. Whereas a win v Usyk would arguably place him top 10 all time at heavy. As I say a huge shame. Along with Bivol and Beterbiev not happening it's a depressing time for the sport. No wonder the circus shows are doing so well.
Wilder is much better than Joshua, though. And Fury has beaten him three times. You are ignoring the commercial considerations. Who brings in the bulk of the revenues? Fury must stand his ground as the superstar and head of all of boxing. He is the most famous boxer in the world, at present, and arguably best.
Really hope this gets sorted. It’s a fight that’s needed for the division. I had hoped, relative to the ego and complexity of sorting Fury vs Joshua, that this would be plain sailing. All we can do is speculate, but my hypothesis is that Fury wants more money than Joshua got for the same opponent. He hasn’t and won’t receive such a lucrative offer. Despite his bravado, I think it’s clear Fury wishes he had the profile Joshua enjoyed for most of his career and I reckon this is the main barrier.
Agree that the fight just needs to get agreed, but your comment about belts is nonsense seeing that Usyk picked up those belts from AJ who won them all from Fury vacating them in the first place. I’m afraid belts mean little when there are so many now at every weight.
