Im sure I read somewhere that they had to fight with different weight gloves, is this right or sour grapes from McDermotts camp ?

They didn't have to, but apparently it was in the contract that Fury could use Reyes or Grant gloves (punchers gloves - I can't remember which brand it was).

Mcdermott's trainer said it was like John being hit with a baseball bat and was unfair, but agreed it should have been sorted out during negotiations. That's the long and short of it.

they were contracted to use bbe gloves but fury paid about £500 to be able to use another type of glove. should never have been allowed to happen. both fighters should have to wear the same gloves!!

^^^ Is spot on with regards to what happened.

Personally i think for British Boxing we need boxers to wear the better gloves like Reyes,Grant etc. The BBE's are terrible to watch and for me to wear. I know certain fighters dislike them as well.

  5. Jim McDonnell threw a tantrum after Fury wore Reyes (punchers') gloves. Said he'd never have agreed to the fight if he knew from the start.

I don't see what's wrong with that. It's McDermott and his camps fault if they chose to wear shitty BBE gloves. I doubt the gloves were even that much of a factor.

It's nice to see Warren and Hatton using Reyes and Grant gloves. The BBE gloves seem low quality and very padded.

BBE, Grant, Winning etc should be banned. These gloves are a joke and simply prolong a fight. All gloves should be Reyes and Everlast.

Maloney has a deal with BBE, so I think his fighters have to wear them.

Jason Booth quote with regards to BBE gloves:

"Hey these are nice [Grant gloves] aren't they? ****ing hell, not like them BBE's sponge ones."

I put them on in Maloney's Deptford gym a few years back, Thought i try these as seen them on Tv etc. Put them on mate i couldn't clinch my fist. They didn't have that feeling of right connection when you punch, I felt i was gonna injury my hand if i continued. Took them off and a fella said to me Froch ****ing hates them to, done his hand once wearing them.

They ruin fights as you say they look like pillows, As Kos just put even the fighters don't like them, They are to heavily padded imo. When i was on pads i like to feel the power of shot go up my arms, i couldn't feel that with them on.

That's it, I like to feel good when i punch, like to feel the punch landed correctly otherwise i get frustrated and start that thing you do when you shake arms around like you can't get going sorta thing. I respect why they are the way there made but at same time there not helping boxing from a purely cosmetic view. Can't appreciate the punches fighters land.

Those BBE ones are terrible, I'm surprised more fighters don't complain about them.

I bought some ages ago, went to a boxercise class and nearly broke both my hands..... think they are still in the boot somewhere :nut

Is it the Reyes ones that are the punchers gloves, Grant somewhere in between?

Yep Cleto Reyes are punchers gloves, They have hardly any padding in them from what Tony Bellew said. They used to use horse hair, Grant's have extra padding and are used more for fighters who are looking at a defensive fight or fighters who have hand issues. They have a bigger circumference so it's better to use them when defending against a big puncher or if you have ability to cut.
