I don’t see how a 3rd fight is commercially viable- unless Haymon and Finkel are prepared to make a huge loss themselves. Anyway, Ive just watched the fight again and it looks to me that Wilder came into the fight on unsteady legs- perhaps over night there just shot to bits, but from the start of round 2 his balance was all over the place. I don’t think there was anything wrong with his chin - his lower half just wasn’t able to support him when he was being pounded by Tyson.
The rematch was a 50/50 split. I’m sure I read that a third encounter would be nearer 70/30. The fact this 30% would still be among Wilders highest pay days says a lot of how poorly he was managed financially as an unbeaten, exciting world heavyweight champion
Completely ageee. Absolutely pointless. Shame this Pulev mandatory is in the way. Wish the governing bodies could see some sense.
3rd fight is almost definitely going to happen and with all the potential for corruption in boxing, the thought of Fury potentially losing in a 3rd fight sickens me considering he's beaten him twice already. I can literally see him taking a knockdown or getting a cut and it getting waved off immediately so they can return the belt to America. I hope i'm just being paranoid and Fury completely dismantles him in the same fashion. Screw mandatory rematch clauses. You shouldn't be allowed to hold hostage a belt that you have just lost.
Wilder is a proud man and would want the rematch but realistically what would he need to change for him to have a chance of winning ? At 34 I doubt that he could add the skills required so it would be totally reliant on landing a bingo punch , which has probably been his main game plan for most of his career ,or Fury not taking the fight seriously? It’s probably going to happen as it is a good retirement top up but I will not be buying.
After watching last night it would be borderline dangerous to put wilder straight back in there again. He was pretty much beating from pillar to post. Sensible heads need to be put on...if wilder still wants it...he needs to rebuild first.
This goes against what many are saying, but I think it would do Joshua the world of good to fight Pulev before jumping in with Fury. Let’s be real here, Joshua took a beating in that first Ruiz fight, and he won the rematch by moving around a big ring and picking shots. He stiffened up the two times that Ruiz managed to close him down. That to me is a fighter who isn’t psychologically over the defeat despite the victory. He now needs an opponent he can starch to get that confidence back because as I’ve pointed out several time’s (sorry) since Klitschko, he’s only legitimately stopped Povetkin in 5 fights. He should get in Pulev, bingo him and then we will get the best version of Joshua in a fight with Fury.
Wilder will always have a puncher's chance. He could take the 3rd fight and retire with the pay off. The fight wouldn't sell anywhere near as good as this one but it could still do 300-400,000 PPV buys.
I think we have to assume the third fight is the most likely option next. Fury will be the very warm favourite, but needs to remain focused. If it is to happen, the quicker the better for Fury's chances.
I think Hearn knows AJ is fighting Pulev next. Realistically he must know that Fury can't and won't be able to agree to AJ this summer within the next few weeks and the clock is ticking on the Pulev at Tottenham match, so Hearn can say what he wants right now and then claim that Fury's side didn't step up quick enough. I'm not saying he doesn't want the Fury fight - I'm pretty sure AJ wants it - but I suspect Hearn is just doing the usual.
Wilder would be mad not to activate the rematch clause , even if he doesn’t want it . That way if they do seriously want to make Fury v AJ next they would need to offer some serious step aside money. Where else does Wilder go if he doesn’t fight Fury again next , anyone he fights will fancy their chances now that the blueprint is there and his confidence will be shot to bits. I only see 2 options , he takes the 3rd fight , if he loses he retries very wealthy and he still has a puncher’s chance of winning (although unlikely) or take step aside money then retire. I really can’t see him fight anyone else first for probably 20% of what he got last night with very little else on the line.
Blue print? Fury is an ATG heavyweight. Losing to him is no disgrace. Wilder is still the 2nd best heavyweight in the world IMO, he knocks Joshua out.
