Tyson Fury will soon consider other options as a step up on the heavyweight ladder against former world champion Ruslan Chagaev seems destined to fail to make it past the negotiations phase. The former Irish champion, along with trainer and uncle Peter Fury, had focused all their efforts on securing the Uzbek fighter for a November date in Las Vegas or Dublin, but have been left frustrated at a lack of enthusiasm from Chagaev. We have asked Chagaev for a response in writing if he wants fight or not. In the next few days we will be looking for other options once he has officially turned the offer down, Chagaev previously stated he wants good team behind him,if he faces Fury. Your thoughts?
Who is a reasonable replacement? I know it's a bit of a jump on paper, but what about Povetkin? It's risky, but I really, really think he's on the slide btu he's still a serious, serious name and would rocket him up the rankings. Still to soon? I think they'd be up for fighting Huck and I think Huck is better than Povetkin. Just saying. I'd love to see him fight Abdusalamov, but I guess that wouldn't be made. Mormeck? Not as dangerous as Chagaev but still has the Klitschko stamp of approval as an opponent and unlikely to make trouble for the big guy, I guess. Who is there out there that apes the risk/reward ration Chagaev represents? How about Dimitrenko?
Fight Wilder. Fury opened his mouth and then ran once Wilder wanted the fight. Not saying Wilder can win but the fight is better then fighting the Madalone's of the world.
Povetkin is fighting Rahman and I doubt he'd fight Fury. And Mormeck? That is a useless fight. Mormeck barely beat Madalone and got a gift vs Oquendo and Ibragimov. he show be 1-4 at heavyweight.
Povetkin and Huck already have fights lined up. If Abdusalamov gets past McCline this weekend that's a fight I could see Fury and Abdusalamov both wanting next. Abdusalamov has already called out Price and was willing to travel. They've both got a sort of measuring stick against each other too with both having beaten Rich Power around the same time, Abdusalamov far more impressively though Fury has come on leaps and bounds since then.
Now that's someone I never thought of... I like it. But then again, Dimi might faint in his dressingroom before entering the ring though.
Ha, but yeah, just thinking it might be good to see Fury fight against someone of similiar height and get him a little more ready for fighting a Klitschko.
Wilder called out Fury, Fury answered then decided that Wilder was a nobody who wasn't worth the time. Entirely different thing. It's not as if Fury was trying to goad Wilder into a fight then backed off as soon as Wilder responded, Wilder's been the guy running his mouth about Fury. Wilder needs to raise his rank until he's at least ranked in the top 20 before he can legitimately call out somebody who's ranked in the top 10.
