This again is because it's on NBC in the States- it was televised live so they probably thought having a crowd in there would have been too much of a risk.
No because Cruisers & even L-HWs stepping up would ALL be under 6' 3" and that is what makes the S-HWs the different animals the height and the reach is not an even playing field. as to "yet another division", again NO, redifine ALL weight to 12 divisions from Fly to HW with 10lbs between them ending in S-HWs, the ONLY division with a Height attached to it (6' 3") and starting at 225+ lbs . simple and easy done, and that's STILL LESS weight between divisions than the original 8 weights, (and yes we know there was originally 6). it would also make boxing easier to follow rather than 17 flippen divisions and the HWs and S-HWs so UNEVENLY matched.
Can anyone here with boxnation tell me the time of the first replay of tonights fights tomorrow. Have the channel but the guide is well and truly ****ed and theresno way i can stay up to watch it live. Cheers lads.
Having a weigh division based on height seems odd, especially when you see a fighter like Paul Williams who was around that height and fought at welter. How do they separate the heavy and super heavy in the amateurs? Can't help but think the heavy weight division would lose some of its glamour if there is a division above it.
tall and skinny or thin by nature, is nowhere the same as thos Big Tall HULKING S-HWs always fighting much smaller men. Boxing has changed, just as it did in the past... 12 divisions, 10lbs between them and a S-HW division, much more even & competitive.
