Fury's win over Klitschko was head and shoulders above Joshua's. There is no debate on that. 1. Fury ended his legendary title reign, not Joshua. 2. Klit was almost a year and a half older for Joshua. 3. That year and a half was a layoff, so there was rust AND age 4. Fury did not have to get off the canvas to do it. Yeah, Joshua stopped him...he had to. He was in danger of losing. It isn't a knock against Joshua, by the way, who did some great work in Fury's absence. But let's not re-write history into farce. Fury's was the significant, historical win. Joshua's was the standard gimme against an aging former champ, and he almost blew it.
Fury’s was more surprising because he’d looked quite average up until then. Joshua was blowing people away. The Joshua fight will be remembered for longer. Outside places like here (and even for plenty on here) the Fury Klitschko fight was a terrible fight. Tyson landed about six punches a round and Wlad even less. Very boring.
Uh, no. Fury dethroned him, so that fight will be remembered longer. By he way, it was a great display of scientific boxing for the fans.
The fights that get remembered tend to be the exciting ones. I doubt many people can even really remember what was on the table for the Gatti Ward fights or Castillo Corrales. I get that Fury fans want to dress the fight up to be more than it was, and it was a great achievement, but nobody as a kid sees boxing on the TV and sees a guy land five punches a round whilst the other guy lands three and thinks 'wow, this is the sport for me.' If anything, despite him being an overblown, brutally exposed one trick pony, Fury's fights with Wilder will be remembered for longer than the Klitschko fight, largely because of Fury getting up in the twelfth and battering Wilder all over the shop in the rematch.
Im a big Fury fan but to watch a second time was painful On the night less so as i was quite captivated by the way Vlad looked shot
he was worried about his missuses real mental health who was receiving treatment in a mental health unit but that dont count
I think Klitschko had an off night and expected Fury to be a bit of a clown but he was miles better than expected. Wlad probably thought even at 50% he had enough to win. Terrible fight. Wlad going for it in the rematch when he was fully switched on might have been intriguing but we'll never know after Fury got popped for drugs.
Wladimir Klitschko reigned unbeaten as champion for almost a whole decade. He's going down in history as a champion of great longevity. To suggest the fight where that monumental title reign finally came to an end could be virtually forgotten or considered of little significance in history (simply because it was a very dull fight) is just silly. On the other hand, rampant speculation based on nothing more than a blind hatred of Fury, such as ....... ....... will find no traction in history. Years from people will see Wlad was a great champion but an old one ...... and Fury was a great talent with youth on his side. And the result reflects that. It is just as boxing has always been. The passing of the torch.
Hello mate. Been a while. Speaking of silly, how's life in the world of millions being forced to die and bloody violence on the streets? I have to admit, it's all been quite mild in my neck of the woods? Anyway, already, among plenty of people on here who follow boxing enough to post thousands of times on a message board devoted to boxing, it's remembered for being one of the worst heavyweight title fights of all time. I think people forget that, actually, we do remember history reasonably well. Nobody today thinks Calzaghe beat a prime Jones. Nobody thinks Berbick really got Ali's name on his record in any reasonable sense. Nobody thinks Louis wasn't done by the time Marciano fought him. Fury did well and got an upset win but it's such a rubbish fight that it damns it somewhat in terms of how it'll be remembered.
"Smoke and mirrors", maybe. But honestly, going off the Wallin fight (who Fury legitimately beat, btw), you thought Wilder would win the rematch with Fury, didn't you ? Correct me if I'm wrong. You had old Wlad and one-trick Wilder KOing Fury 3 out of 3, I will guess. Am I right ? I certainly didn't pick him to win all three. But instead of being 0-3 in the 3 big fights, Fury stands at 2-0-1 (which should be 3-0 according to almost everyone*). Fury hasn't got an alltime great record but he's the best of a mediocre bunch right now. Time to give him credit. I know the hatred is real ......... but if AJ beats Fury next year, are we going to hear how AJ beat the "smoke and mirrors, weak resume, Otto Wallin is his daddy ...... McDermott, McDermott, McDermott " guy ..... or will Fury be portrayed as something somewhat better than that ? * @Jurgen was actually one of the few here who didn't score the first Wilder-Fury fight as a win for Fury, if I remember rightly.
