Wlad has only become robotic with age. Young Wlad was nothing like what you see now. He was extremely fluid, fast, mixed it up, would counterpunch, fight on the inside with devastating short punches. He had great movement at the waist, bending and dodging, ect... Do yourself and favor and watch a younger version of Wlad. The difference may surprise you.... [YT]i8aSM1XobR0[/YT]
You don't have to tell me. I know that age can affect a fighter. We are not the same when we're 30 as we are when we are 20. We are certainly not the same at 40 as we were in our 20s. Unfortunately, time is linear and your body does get older. But at this stage, with this present Wladimir, he has become more of a distance slugger with good footwork, rather than a fluid boxer. Fury had both the size and the style to beat him.
To be honest, I also feel like Wlad is doing too much in the weight room now. He also fought smoother, and less rigid when he wasn't quite so muscular. He's always been built, but he seems like he sacrificed fluidity for strength. That might work against some fighters, but against a man his size, he'd be much better off if he were a bit more loose. He used to be much more relaxed, and now he seems extremely tense/tight. His punches have become much more push than snap.
He's older. It doesn't matter what he does now. The old Wlad can't come back. It's the tragedy of life. There is nothing that can be done.* *Unless he rubs a testosterone cream all over his body and then uses and IV right before the fight to cleanse his system.
No doubt, the old Wlad can never come back. However, I do think there are things that he could do to better himself as he currently stands. Of course, I still think that he should retire. He doesn't have anything to prove... unless to himself.
Wlad pre-Brewster would have probably decisioned if not knocked out Tyson Fury. Fury is a slapper and doesn't really have formidable punching power. Post Brewster Wlad however became to conservative and any version of that Wlad would have gotten out worked and outhustled by Fury. Wlad is pretty much still the fight today that decisioned David Haye. Fury did not beat on a diminished version of the Wlad we've seen from the Brewster fight to the present.
But Fury isn't a bum so there is no way we will find out. Name a non bum Wilder has fought. Maybe if Fury gets a job as a cab driver they may fight...
