I think the idea of "kronk Fury" is a bit of a myth, Sugar Hill is not his dad, I don't think he did much more than get Fury to fight in a style Fury could already fight in. Freddie Roach knew as much it was just Davidson who lacked imagination and tried to replicate the Wlad gamelan.

Most of you have only been Fury fans since he beat Wlad, (I was around in those days he had very few fans most of you supported Price, I REMEMBER) You weren't aware the man could fight on the front foot and could fight inside.

The Fury in the klitschko fight could do everything he did in the second Wilder fight he just chose to box, which was the right call as Wladamir is far more accurate and versatile with his offence than Wilder.

The Fury from the Wlad fight would have been very hard to beat, he completely puzzled a very technically good and accurate puncher that night. The Fury from the second fight beat a very powerful but less than mediocre boxer. The first performance is greater in my eyes.

 

Agree.

Fury's style in the second fight against Wilder was far more entertaining, so purely as a fan seeking entertainment, that's the one I prefer. However, he did allow Wilder chances which a more accomplished opponent may have been able to exploit. It will be fascinating to see how he takes on AJ for instance who I believe would be better at countering and fighting on the back foot.

The magnitude of Fury's accomplishment in Germany was on another level. Again overseas with all the disadvantages of taking on a champion in their backyard, but this time a man heading for the ATG list and not giving him a sniff all night long.

I think the Peter Fury trained performance was the greater in achievement, but much prefer watching the Kronk version .

 

I - for my sins - watched Wlad-Fury again over the weekend. I remember people saying after that if he Wlad just 'decided' to let his hands go earlier in the fight than the 12th, then he'd have won. Which anyone with half a boxing brain knows is nonsense. But anyway, I rewatched and that 12th round isn't even a particularly clear round for Wlad either.

As you say, a honking style to watch but a tremendously difficult one to beat over 12. I'm not sure my reply has much to do with your post at all, but here we are.

 

You deserve an MBE for services to boxing sitting through the worst 12 rounds ever seen in a ring - TWICE.

I wondered how someone could focus for a full 36 minutes of a non combat event knowing that nothing was about to happen.

I think the Fury who beat Wlad beats the one who beat Wilder.

I don’t mean to take anything away from a fantastic performance but it was only Wilder. Wlad was a top, top boxer. Elite in many departments and highly skilled. What does Wilder do good other than one punch power?

Would he be able to do it against someone who can move, dodge and weave at an elite level? (I realise how stupid it sounds as I’m talking about him fighting himself!)
