Joshua getting stick for his opponents and Joshua being incorrectly lauded as having the best record in the division are two separate discussions. Joshua's opponents have been crap, having been in two 50-50 bouts in his entire career, and losing to an absolute pudding renders him out of the discussion for best "CV" in the division. It's Fury, by some distance. Usyk could well end up having the best, but it's almost impossible for Joshua to end up with that distinction. Nothing can expunge losing to that pudding and of course he was leathered by Usyk - who @Brixton Bomber was saying was too small and a cruiserweight before the bout.
Congrats. Fury has conned you. He has you supporting his duck move. Tell me this though. Have you actually seen a video with Whyte demanding 10 million? Has that actually came out of his mouth? Or are we just to believe Arum? Also, Fury has you all arguing the purse split instead of calling him out for ducking another top contender. A guy with 1 title defense should want to fight his mandatory, right?
I don't really care about Whyte and the WBC rankings. I don't care what Arum said either. But from what I've heard from all sides, Whyte wants more money than the other parties want him to get. Everyone who has spoken on it agrees to that. Which isn't surprising, he priced himself out of AJ fight 3 years ago similarly. I don't give a flying **** if Fury "ducks" Whyte to face a Ruiz, a Joyce or a Parker type opponent. They are all the same. I don't care about "mandatory". Never have. Whyte simply doesn't have the credentials to be regarded as important. He was sparked out by an old man two fights ago, FFS, and you guys are going on like he's an undefeated Lennox Lewis being swerved by Riddick Bowe. No, I haven't seen Whyte say 10 million, but I do believe he's turned down millions and wants to squeeze some extra millions out through the arbitration. Otherwise what else is it about? I just want to see these heavyweights actually having fights.
We've got people on these forums who are clearly not fans of the sport at all. They care more about purse splits, purse bids, pay cheques, promoters and sanctioning bodies than they do about fights actually getting made. The fact that people are actually advocating for a mediocre challenger to get 6 or 7 millions (pounds or dollars) or more - and I've even seen people calling such figures "insulting" - instead of telling them to take the chance to get in the ring and fight, is astounding.
Whyte isn’t even the best in the UK, he should be eternally grateful after the Povetkin debacles. He’s in the Yildirim league when it comes to mandatories. We all know what a farce that was at super middle!
Exactly, Whyte isn't even proven to be the 3rd best BRITISH Heavyweight, behind Fury and AJ. We have the likes of Joyce and Dubois who could challenge him right now for that honour. Even Hughie Fury's performances against Parker and Povetkin put him around Whyte's level.
Why would Fury duck Whyte? Really.. He just got laid out by the shell of Povetkin. I want the fight to happen as I think its a fun one, and I like others want to stop seeing people fight the same people, especially when they only fight once a year. If Whyte takes 20% it happens. If he pushes and takes this further it probably doesn't happen. This is on Whyte not Fury. And he has history here, turned down £5-6mil to fight AJ a few years ago.
Couldn't agree more. Win the title in the ring (against the champion and not for a vacant belt) and the money will come
I'm not sure why you are saying he should stick to fighting "the Molinas, Takams, Breazeales, Martins, Paint Drys and Pulevs of the world." What point are you trying to make, why should he stick to those opponents?
Povetkin and Pulev should have perhaps fought each other in 2018 then, eliminator, so that Joshua would not have had to fight both!
Would have been better, but they were both on decent runs before fighting Joshua. Just checked and it was a carbon copy with both. Pulev and Povetkin both lost against Wlad, then went on 8 fight winning streaks before fighting AJ. Also would have helped if Whyte didn't pull out against Pulev, but at least Pulev's comments were funny - "Pulev was unhappy with the pull out and labelled Whyte and Hearn as 'extreme manipulators and plain schizophrenics' as well as accusing them of avoiding him at all costs."
Might be, which still comfortably puts him in the top 5 in the world. 1. Fury 2. Usyk. 3. Joshua 4. Whyte 5. Joyce Wilder is done at the top level, and Ruiz Jr. didn't look all that grand in his last outing. No where left to hide for the PBC, everything is falling apart for them. Watch Ortiz duck Hrgovic next to keep it in house and the dream alive
