I assume they are close to a deal, neither side really want's it to go to purse bids, they've just requested a bit more time to finalise the deal. I'd fully expect the WBC to keep pushing back the purse bid date until they come to a deal as Haymon and Warren won't want Hearn swooping in and out bidding them both, giving Wilder and Fury a record payday and the fight being snatched from Showtime and put on DAZN. It would make both Warren and Haymon look very bad indeed and some of their fighters might begin to wonder if it's better to side with the guy with the deeper pockets.
Wilder's team and Fury's team have had an agreement to fight twice since before their first fight. Frank Warren asked the WBC to order an immediate rematch to prevent the WBC from forcing Wilder to fight anyone before Fury. The WBC agreed to do so and then said if the two sides don't agree within a certain time frame it would go to purse bids (which was unnecessary). Warren doesn't want the fight to go to purse bids because if it does Fury only gets 40 percent. They've already agreed to a larger share for Fury. A purse bid would ruin that. The two sides just need an extra week to work out the finer details. The agreement is in place. And the WBC gave them that extra week. That's all this is. The extra week is a favor to FURY. Wilder's team isn't interested in screwing Fury over by only giving him 40 percent (which is what a purse bid would do). Wilder's team and Fury's team have worked well together the whole time. Both teams are just trying to keep the WBC from ham-handedly screwing up their arrangements by imposing arbitrary deadlines.
In other words, "let's hurry up and get this thing done before the purse bid and DAZN buys it" hahahaha. They aren't fooling anybody.
@Dubblechin Thank you for explaining what shouldn't have to be explained to purported boxing fans. This kind of thing happens all the time. You are close to deal and can get it done without going to bids, so you ask for an extension. It usually means the fight is nearly set. Some of the motivated reasoning on here is a trip. People will spin any fact (usually, out of ignorance) they can to push an agenda.
They are just dragging it out until Joshua and Miller are signed up then the rematch will fall apart and Wilder will face Breazeale. Why do you think the WBC ordered this rematch even though they have a mandatory sat waiting for about 14 months now? What happened was there was a period in time where Joshua was free to negotiate, Wilder was free to negotiate and Fury was saying he would not get in the way of the unification before he rematched Wilder. So the WBC protected Wilder by ordering the rematch, that meant Wilder had a reason to not take any notice of Hearn and Joshua waving contracts at them without looking like he was ducking again. Without that WBC order there was actually no reason why Joshua and Wilder couldnt of made a fight on April the 13th at Wembley. With it there became a reason why that fight couldnt get made.
Hearn has said he will GO LARGE in a purse bid. He has good backing and DAZN will definitely be interested and so would Sky so money is there. Very interesting it's been postponed, normally I would assume they (both camps) have said to the WBC "the deal is almost agreed, we are just finalising the last few bits.. no need for a purse bid" Or They haven't agreed a deal, but agreed to ask for a postponement to stop Hearn bidding and potentially stealing the fight. Either way, it's good news, if they have struck a deal then superb, if not I will actually break ribs laughing if Hearn won the fight in a purse bid, FW would explode, Hearn would be unbearable and Wilder, Finkel and Haymon look ridiculous and poor.
Its quite funny that the **** house joke set up DAZN which was failing and folding is so weak in America the organizations are having to protect American promoters from them. They scared of Eddie and are panicking. Delaying pursebid calls, calling voluntary rematches instead of calling mandatorys. What ever next? Maybe a special belt for the winner of Wilder Fury?
Well yeah if you ignore there are other champions in other promotions outside UFC. Also UFC still has interim champions
