Fury would be insane to retire after this next fight.

It makes no sense for him to say "I've already won it all, every belt, so I don't need to do anything else, I've got nothing left to prove..." and then fight Whyte as his last fight? What sort of send of is beating someone who's simply a set up from Chisora?

Makes no sense. He knows that the biggest fight of his life hasn't actually passed him... unless he's satisfied ***** slapping aging Wlad and Beyonce Wilder?

Good wins, but if those are his best then he's selling himself short.

Uysk and Joshua are his key to

    1. Doubling or trippling his fortune

    2. Becoming an actual ATG who could literally be considered in the top 5 hw's ever.

    3. Being involved in some huge historical fights, far greater than ass whooping wilder.

If he beats Usyk and Joshua - His resume would be -

    Uysk
    Joshua
    Wlad
    Wilder
    Whyte

    That's a solid resume really.

There's also another side to the coin here.
If he actually retires, which I don't believe, the mythicalness stays alive among a large part of his fans. He would have beaten -insert an actual ATG- with ease! He didn't need to prove that.
While the rational side points to the 2 other best of the generation and never fighting them.
Is he the favorite against them for most fans? Yes, but in Usyk's case only slightly. And all of us know that not fighting someone while being the favorite, doesn't mean you would have beaten him.
In his own case, if the "fight" with Wlad never happened because they had banned him for testing positive for the Hammer fight, almost nobody would have had him winning a mythical matchup.
Same if Holyfield vs Tyson never happened etc.
There's also the thing that he thinks they'd beat him or have a very good chance, ruining his status. And there's always the "comeback"!
More money and he can choose his opponents again. The network that broadcasts it would promote the s--t out of the so called lineal belt/championship/crown/underpants, you name it, and bill it as world title fights despite the sub-par opposition.

He’s alrrady backed up his retirement claims in recent printrd interviews.

That was just hoopla for gulliable fools on a boxing forum to keep attention on him.

He's capable of pulling the plug because he's done it before and probably is actually running out of motivation.
But if he wins and doesn't stick around to take on Uysk or Joshua, then he is indeed an idiot who would have sabotaged his legacy.
Because of what's at stake for him after the Whyte fight, people would be right to call him a ducker if he avoided the winner of AJ/Usyk.
It would be highly suspicious if he couldn't get motivated for at least one last fight to unify. I believe it would be a case of taking his ball and going home.

I don't care about the AJ fight anymore but if Fury doesn't return, he better hope Wilder comes back and KO's the winner, otherwise it indeed looks bad legacy-wise.

It would be great for boxing if we saw Fury take on AJ and Usyk, and it would be financially amazing for everyone involved as well. Also, if he won those fights, there would be no question and no debate that he was the greatest heavyweight of his generation.

If Fury retires after beating Whyte, I definitely don't see Fury as an ATG, nor even the best of his generation. I see people forever debating this and asking what else he could have accomplished, like what if Iron Mike never went to prison, or if Ali wasn't banned for nearly 4 years, etc. Throwing away years of potential would be such a disservice to the sport and to his legacy. But even still, i still get it. Maybe he just doesn't want any more wear and tear on his body, and he's got enough money to live lavishly for the rest of his life.

I think he doesnt want to fight usyk.
So takes this mayweather vacation type retirement to see what happrns with AJ vs Usyk.
I think he wants to fight AJ on a big wembey event then beat up some mma fighters in exhibitions and call it a day.

Maybe he will be back in the future to fight the then number 1 guy.

I believe the Wilder fights have injured him and he has less punch resistance than he used to. He has kids and money, why would he keep fighting? To develop parkinsons? Let's not forget this is a business and every man that steps into that ring hopes to retire in good health.

Why would he keep fighting? For the same reason a lot of fighters fight? They all accept the risks of fighting, all HW's have taken massive punches at some point. Why get involved if you're not willing to accept the risk?

He said at one point he could box until he's 40, and that he boxes for happiness. It keeps him somewhat disciplined.

I'd say he should continue to box because he enjoys it and he could still be involved in some massive fights.

He's at no more risk that anyone else in the sport.

All boxers want to retire in good health, but many of them carry on into their 40's and live until their later years.

After all the beatings he's already taken, 2 more fights after this one probably wont make a big difference. He'd only have to face Usyk and/or Joshua and become undisputed.

He just needs the winner of Aj v Usyk (usyk) then he can retire win or lose

If he beats the winner of that fight? Then solidifies his claim as an ATG Heavyweight and would be in many all time lists as such

Imagine if Usyk beats Aj again, then dethrones Fury? He would be right up there with the very best all time

The only fight out there that interests Fury at this moment would be the Usyk fight. If Usyk beats Joshua again Fury will have zero interest in fighting Joshua. Fury can retire for a year or two come back and fight who ever is top dog then. In the mean time if Fury does actually retire after Whyte then Wilder will fight again for the WBC title so some interesting match ups for Wilder with Fury off the scene .Tbh it will be very interesting to see how Wilder does against any of the top fighters not named Fury .

Whyte would be Fury best career win after Wlad, third Chisora and fourth Wilder.

That said if (as I reckon) Fury loses, would he still retire? I think he would but I'd like to see fight another decent level guy to really gauge how good he is since coming out of retirement.

As Fury said himself, to make millions and get out healthy. Fury didn't look good in his last fight and probably knows something about why he is retiring that we don't.

As for his two fights, Joshua is robotic but can hit hard and Usyk is death by a thousand cuts.

This is all just my opinion on it if he actually retires. To be fair it could just be Fury being Fury, the same man who showed up to a presser as Batman so who knows?

Beating Joshua would do almost nothing for his legacy, especially if Joshua loses the rematch to Usyk which he most likely will.

However, retiring before fighting Usyk for undisputed would indeed be bad optically and would leave a question mark on his legacy.
