Just a bit of historical context.

Cassius Clay won the world championship on February 25, 1964 when Sonny Liston quit on his stool, leaving many people unimpressed by both men.

He caught some flak when he changed his name to Muhammad Ali and began spouting his personal religious beliefs, announced his was a follower of Elijah Muhammad, a self-proclaimed prophet, and started promoting black separatism, etc.

He was stripped of the WBA title in 1964 because he had a rematch clause with Liston.

The Liston rematch was finalized for November 1964 in Boston, but Ali pulled out a few days before with a hernia injury.

It wasn't until May 25, 1965 that Ali finally gave Liston a rematch. A small crowd in a small town turned up to watch. And it was one of the most disappointing "fights" of all-time.

Maybe Fury should be cut a bit of slack.

15 Months would be January 2017. Fury doesn't have a fight lined up within 15 months of him winning the belts. There's no assurance he will be back in the ring at all in 2017. He will likely be banned for quite some time by the BBBOC for PED abuse. The decision is coming up on November 4th and Fury probably knows/guesses the outcome, hence the depression.

Tyson Fury is a liar and a cheat and I'm sick of him hiding behind his background as an excuse for his behaviour. He's a fully grown man and it's about time this shameless hypocrite started acting like it.

Having previously defended him, I've totally run out of patience with his antics, which in my opinion look to stem from being spoilt his entire life. This is why I think he takes criticism so badly.

    15 months I think would be February 28, 2017.

I agree, I don't see him being in the ring for some time. I'm just saying, historically these lay-offs have happened, and stripping him of all his titles shouldn't be the automatic response at the moment.

I do believe he should retire and relinquish the title though. Because if he's genuinely paralysed by depression there should be a long time off to get himself in order.
I don't want too see him pumped for of anti-depressants thrown in the ring again soon just to satisfy everyone else involved.

There were all kinda issues in place that held up the rematch in Ali's case and it wasn't a onesided affair.
And whatever the circumstances then, the rules that apply now say he will probably be stripped.

Ali wasn't on steroids, getting fat between fights, and partying at clubs then posting it on the internet.

Were the rules even the same back then in regards to how often you had to defend the belt against mandatory's?

Vitali would be a better modern day example. After the Charr fight he held onto the belt for 15 months while he decided what he was going to do next.

Maybe they let him keep the belt, maybe they don't. The fact is the fight has been delayed or cancelled twice now and the last time his excuse looked flimsy with the timing of the doping charges and the fact he was caught jumping up and down on his supposed injured ankle.

With Wlad likely looking for the belts to be stripped and with K2 having far much more influence and financial clout I suspect they'll strip him.

She did invent Scooby Doo and a host of other loveable cartoon characters though. You gotta give her props for that.

Well, they didn't have drugs-testing or the internet in Ali's day, and he did get fat between fights.

All of that is irrelevant anyway.
You can't strip a man of his title based on the fact you don't like his lifestyle.

I can only see the PEDs thing being an issue.
When is he mandated to fight the mandatory?

In 2005 Vitali cancelled or re-scheduled the fight with Hasim Rahman about 3 or 4 times at least, finally announced his retirement at the end of that year, and vacated the WBC title and RING magazine title.

I agree, Fury doesn't have the clout K2 have.

I think he should retire and vacate anyway.

He's mandated to defend his titles against anyone before Nov 28. That's not gonna happen surely, and the whole drug thing is just coming on top of that.

    Yeah, okay.
He should just retire and vacate.
It would actually help his career if/when he ever wants to come back.
There's no point in him fighting all these losing battles.

Ali wasn't known for looking like a beached whale between fights. Sure he gained a lot of weight during his exile but that is a lot different from Tyson Fury. Also, the circumstances/time period is different. It isn't a black and white situation (no pun intended).
