I remember Guinn was touted as the next great champ, seems like a life time ago now. Cant believe he's still going !
The problem for Warren and Fury here is that they're both keen to tell us Fury is the real heavyweight champion of the world right now. If they want to bill this as a heavyweight championship fight they're going to have to find someone reasonable and make it a 12 round fight. If they don't bill it as a world championship fight, they expose their talk about Fury being champion as a load of hot air. Having said that, historically the bar for what can be passed off as a heavyweight world challenger is pretty low. Muhammad Ali cherry picked some as bad as Jean Pierre Coopman and Alfredo Evangelista. Larry Holmes had Lorenzo Zanon, Lucien Rodriguez and Scott Frank. George Foreman had Jose Roman and later Crawford Grimsley. Wladmir Klitschko fought Alex Leapai and Francesco Pianeta. It'll be interesting to see how they advertise the fight.
I think Shannon Briggs on the undercard building up for the next one because once fury wins him and Briggs going at it will be comedy gold. As for first opponent probably a guy I've not heard of with a good record.
The only people who believe Fury is the HW champion is Tyson Fury and Warren. Nobody else believes such nonsense
Anyone think Fury-Haye is a legit possibility for end of year if Haye comes through against Bellew? I know Tyson said he'd never entertain a fight with Haye again but money talks and this would be the biggest payday for him against anyone other than Wilder and Joshua.
I've seen Jermain Taylor and Shannon Briggs proffered.Total **** take. I'm not really bothered if he comes back or not myself .
I wouldnt dismiss the possibility of it happening. Fury may be a bit reluctant due to Haye pulling out a couple of times though. When that fight was first announced I thought Haye would get fury early, but when they were together on ringside and Fury seemed very confident, I changed my opinion. I think Fury got to Haye a bit in the build up
After reading your post here, I looked at my guesses to see where they were on Boxrec and their KO% and records so I picked Edmund Gerber Gary Cornish Francesco Pianetta Gerber Boxrec - #80 Record - 27-2 KO% - 59% Cornish Boxrec - #82 Record - 25-2 KO% - 48% Pianetta Boxrec - #100 Record - 35-3-1 KO% - 54% All within the 80-150 you mentioned
Yeah that's the only stumbling block I can see. But clearly it would make money and I'm sure Haye wouldn't turn down the money at this stage of his career. I see it as a genuine possibility that the winner on May 5 could face Fury late in the year. I'm a long-time Haye fan, also a fan of Tyson but Haye's my boy. Can't see Haye winning at all against Fury, I actually think it would be a terrible fight. Would have been electric if it was Haye who KO'd Chisora.
