I personally didn't find it distasteful for a few reasons. There was talk that Fury doesn't say **** to Usyk's face, just when he's not there. Also Usyk clowned him in an interview saying "boracho" or that Fury is a drunk, so this was an opportunity for them to talk **** to each other face to face. It's a tough game and fighters try to get an edge mentally all the time. Fury tried to disrespect him and Usyk had a chance to reply, but he chose not to say anything. Fury knows Usyk is mentally strong but will try to see if anything sticks. He had Wlad psyched out, and that's the beauty of the sport to see if you can put doubts in an opponents. I also believe that you should be able to defend yourself both verbally & physically. Fury uses what he's blessed with, size and a big mouth, lol to his advantage. Last, some believe that just because Usyk is one of the nicest & most personable people in boxing, he should be off limits to insults but this is a man's game and it's not off limits. I'm looking forward to see how Fury treats him during presses, and if Usyk uses his wit to get back at him, and also how he deals with this huge challenge. It's physical & mental warfare.
OP is perpetually offended by Tyson Fury. For the record, as far as I'm equipped to judge it, neither Usyk nor Fury are ugly men. And Usyk does have gappy teeth, but they suit him, so who cares? This stuff isn't meant to be taken to heart.
I can see an argument both ways for why some people may find this distasteful and others will not. I personally prefer to see some genuine trash talk and do not have a problem if it gets a bit personal. A lot of sports have preached ‘respect’ to the point it has taken some of the passion away. The difference with boxing is that the boxers need to sell the fight. Like it or not, more casual fans will watch the fight because of his actions in confronting Usyk. Being a gentleman doesn’t attract more fans or create extra interest in the fight. If it did, no one would trash talk.
The fact that mentally Usyk is quite strong and doesn't seem to be easily goaded, just makes this whole build up even more intriguing. Fury is going to be utterly relentless at his press conferences for this one you can tell. Some people might not like it, then don't watch it and just watch the fight. I don't really care for athletes constantly showing "fake respect" to each other before fights. Regardless, fury and Usyk will likely shake hands and show respect after the fight.
It was cringe and won't help to sell the fight at all. If you noticed as soon as they pulled the camera angle back Fury and Usyk were smiling and shaking hands. They both like and respect each other. I think Fury knows the whole promotion will be focused on him so he must play it up as much as he can.
Don't need to sell it. Casuals can suck a lemon. The Saudi's will pay to host these events at a loss. The Prince was at Fury Chisora. Watching Qatar get press from the world cup must have them itching. Undisputed HW clash? $200m pocket change is probably already in escrow... We should all just be happy that two men who have had work supremely hard to get their dollar in this ruthless sport are going to get a record purse. Usyk has followed the path of jesus himself and here he stands with nothing to lose even in defeat. Fury has had to grind through hell and beat the devil himself to get his props and now we all sit here at the gates of heaven waiting in awe.
I'm talking about how people are butt hurt for a little **** talking. Wtf? This new generation of fight fans are pussies. Not all of them but a certain bunch.
To be honest, I never cared for trash-talking and all that nonsense. I appreciate that for some reason, a lot of people like these things but I'll always find it strange that thuggish behaviour can be considered "exciting" and "selling the fight" by adults.
Is gap tooth really a problem? Pretty sure it can be a sign of high test. Iron Mike had a gap tooth, same with arnie.
Fury is shook. He can beat fat, lumbering dossers 6 days of the week and rest on the Sabbath. But he knows he is facing someone truly smarter and more skilled than he is. With the heart of a Eurasian steppe lion to match. I personally don't believe Usyk can beat him. I don't think that opinion will change anytime soon. But the feels grow in me everyday.
